I think Mark did admirable work, but that he struggled in this format. And I say that as a huge fan. I’ve given out half a dozen copies of The Subtle Art after reading it helped me through a tough time. I don’t envy his position. Men and boys are struggling, and plenty of people are out there telling them to be angry, and Mark is trying to tell them the kind of work they need to do. But it’s tough to hear and it takes courage and patience to do the work. But what he is saying is way more helpful…

Paragraphs, man. Please use them. I want to read what you wrote, but you have chosen to abandon the writing conventions that make readability work. Separate your thoughts with line breaks.

Interesting perspective. I agree that the lack of community and family support in the west is one of our biggest downfalls right now.

I think you misunderstood his question. He’s asking what resources to help men who are struggling have you researched. Have you read any self help books? Have you tried therapy? Have you attended any support group meetings? Things like that.

“As a man it is difficult to navigate through our current modern society .” I agree, but I would also agree if you didnt gender this statement. “There isn't a lot of extra encouragement and support towards men's issues and mental health.” I haven’t had a hard time finding resources in this area. I would say that it’s hard to find Good support due t how much bad information is out there. “I would also say that there are a lot of barriers that make it difficult for your average man to be attractiv…

I have a very close friend in a similar boat to you, living with his Ex because of kids and circumstances and financial reasons. I’ll tell you the same thing I’ve told him. Get the fuck out of that house as soon as humanly possible. What a fucking minefield that is. I let my ex move back in a few years into our first separation to help her out. It wasn’t until I was screaming at her for some stupid disagreement that I realized how much of a toll that took on me. If I were you I would take every …

I just made a post about the mistake I made getting back into dating so soon. My marriage will be fully over in two weeks, and we’ve been living apart over a year, and I still wasn’t ready and made some tactical errors because of it that left me way too vulnerable. Obvious we are different people and I think we have vastly different goals as far as dating goes (I’m not looking for sex at ALL right now, just companionship). But I’d still caution you to take a beat and consider how tangled up you …

Yes it’s normal. But yes also you need to eventually get past it. I remember many years ago the very instant that it fully sank in that my wife was completely out of love for me. It was like a switch in my brain. Once you completely internalize it, you realize there is no point in beating yourself up, hating her, or wishing things were different. Things are what they are. Only then can you take a breath, look around and start trying to find a new path forward. It’s going to take whatever amount …

Is that so? Tell me why and maybe you’ll change my mind. That’s what you want in a balanced dialogue, right?

I don’t hear much logical discussion happening here. Just a bitch session taking specific grievances against some particular women that some guys are attempting to apply to the whole gender. Which isn’t useful anyway. Most men’s list of sexual partners can be counted on one or two hands. You want to use that amount of data and apply it to all of “modern femininity”? If you want to be logical, be logical. Anecdotally based ideas about what’s wrong with an entire gender is far from logical.

Just be her dad. Children have different needs of their mother than they do for their father. My daughters are adults now, and their mother and I first got separated when they were preteens and teens. So they’ve had about half their life with their parents together and half with them apart. When my daughters need someone to talk about a health problem or relationship advice, they go to their mom, even though they have a strained relationship at times. When they need financial or general life adv…

You learn from your mistakes. Accept your part in ignoring all the red flags, going along when you knew better, not standing up for yourself. Those are the things you can improve. Be alone for a while. But do it the right way, with an end date and a goal in mind. Working on yourself is a lonesome endeavor but sometimes necessary. Being alone for the rest of your life is not an option. Humans are social creatures and helping others is the only way to have real purpose in life. But you need to bui…

I would also like you to give me $300. I think you should handle her request and my request with equal importance.

Managing anger for me is about learning from my failures. See, I’m a very stupid man. I learn things in the hardest ways possible. And I have learned a lot during my marriage. And it’s been a rough time. But I did learn. I know so many things Not to do now. Entering a lifelong contract with someone who isn’t right for you is a bad idea. That’s something I learned. Expensive lesson? Oooh you better believe it. Will I ever forget it? Not ever. I bet you learned some stuff too.

Is there anything that can be done to change the fact that you are 28 and divorced? Nope. So don’t worry about it. Whether it’s a stain or not, it is what it is.

You’re going to need some help. I can tell by what you’ve written that you need a lot of work to process the end of this marriage and find a way to move on. Reach out to family, friends and a therapist. Your reactions to the utter hatred and disrespect you are being shown from your wife is all out of whack. I suspect you are so used to it that you’re numb and just looking for comfort and a return to normalcy. But that’s not what is going to happen, and it’s not what should happen. Change is hard…

Had a therapist once tell me that shame is the one emotion that is never good for us. Anger, sadness, joy, fear… all of these can be necessary at times, and they can even save your life or give you a reason to carry on. But shame doesn’t help anyone understand or accomplish anything. It is demotivating. It’s a chain around your neck, only dragging you down. So, if you ever feel shame, do whatever you must to reset your thinking. Stomp it out like it’s an invasive species of parasite.

I stopped asking or indicating desire for sex in any way, and even said no a few times when I didn’t think she was really into it (like pity sex) or if I didn’t feel in the mood. That’s when I knew I had tried enough. When I stopped asking for what she didn’t want to give. She had finally trained me for exactly what she wanted, which was to be left alone. Well, she’s alone now.

So not really bucket list items, but specifically a reward for myself. Since my separation last September I have lost 55 lbs. 5 more to go and I will reach my goal weight. To reward myself I am going to buy myself my first tailored suit, because I think a slim gentleman in a nice well-fitting suit is rather dashing, and I’ve never had one. Or the body to go with it. But my divorce will still be a little ways off, so when that is complete I am going have some professional pictures taken of me in …

She’s right. You both should have lives outside of each other to have a real balanced life. Get a community of people you can spend time with. It’s healthier.
