Emotional mutilationmale privilege prevents them from becoming whole, authentic human beings This is a quote from Kay Leigh Hagan and in the context of the Bell Hooks saying that good men exist. Now, maybe you don't think any men have any fauults, but the personality traits listed in the full quote don't seem that bad to me. "Good Men can be somewhat disturbing to be around because they usually do not act in ways associated with typical men; they listen more than they talk; they self-reflect on their behavior and m… | /r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates | 12/12/24 05:38 PM
Emotional mutilationI'm reading the first chapter of Will to Change and I have no idea what you're talkign about. By beginning, do you mean the preface? Because the preface starts with a criticism of militant man-hating feminism...here's a pull quote: "We were the feminists who could not be trusted because we cared about the fate of men. We were the feminists who did not believe in female superiority any more than we believed in male superiority." | /r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates | 12/12/24 05:30 PM
Emotional mutilationmale privilege prevents them from becoming whole, authentic human beings Would you have the time to give me the full quote in context instead of just the fragment? I admit its been a while since I read the Will to Change, but I'd be interested in reading exactly what she said around your pull quote and what she exactly says in the beginning of the Will to Change. My impression of the book over all that she believes men are good at heart but deeply wounded by the gendered standards both women and… | /r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates | 12/12/24 05:25 PM
Emotional mutilationKaren DeCrow sounds great but while I own Christina Hoff Sommers The War on Boys, I would never describe her as a feminist. Dworkin was a deeply crazy person (not unexpected given the abuse she suffered growing up) and thought that all sex with men was rape. You cannot say the same for Bell Hooks, in fact I challenge you to show me where she says men are subhuman or barely dogs, I suspect that's just your own interpretation of her words. | /r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates | 12/12/24 04:52 PM

Emotional mutilationSadly lots of folks that could learn to be more vulnerable in these comments... Its not easy, but taking things less personally and internalizing that everyone has their own path and their thoughts don't really affect me has really helped me be more vulnerable. And if my vulnerability gets turned back on me, well, now I know I don't need that person in my life. Edited to add: Bell hooks is not perfect but she's way better than most. | /r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates | 10/12/24 08:32 PM

[Canada] In one Canadian study, 64% of male survivors of IPV who called police reported being treated as the abuser (Dutton 2012).Eh, I didn't express myself well. A higher focus on women could mean anything from 100% to a 51% focus on women, I'm fine with a 70% focus if that means men start getting help. You have to start somewhere and we're nowhere right now. | /r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates | 18/06/24 04:16 PM
[Canada] In one Canadian study, 64% of male survivors of IPV who called police reported being treated as the abuser (Dutton 2012).I get where you're coming from, but I also get what they're saying, given the likelihood of women suffering greater injury. Right now though, we have something like a 99% focus on female victims. Its to the degree that people don't even believe male victims exist. I'd be OK with a increase focus on women but one that better reflects the current reported victim split, hopefully then more men will feel comfortable coming forward and we can start to actually help them. | /r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates | 17/06/24 08:33 PM
what are your thoughts on transbros in men's advocacy: [only men/amab answer the poll please]I am in fact a biologist, and its not embarassing. I'm sure there's ALOT you don't know about DNA methylation, lol. I'm just using the word "is" differently than you are, in that I am including the embryoes potential in the definition. In a sense (its obviously more complicated than this), the "default" pathway is female, in that were there to be no SRY, the embryo would continue to develop to be female (https://www.nature.com/articles/srep03136). So in that limited sense, the embryo prior to 6-… | /r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates | 05/06/24 06:00 PM
what are your thoughts on transbros in men's advocacy: [only men/amab answer the poll please]It's not a girl by default. Biologist here, if you're talking about the embryo, yes it is, at least up until 6-7 weeks of development. So...technically correct. ;) | /r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates | 05/06/24 03:20 PM
Gender Disappointment in 2024 is Almost Always About Boys. "A shameful secret kept from the public eye but omnipresent in online mom spaces"I do agree with your point but apparently the IVF sex selection statistics do lean female. | /r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates | 13/05/24 02:49 PM
You don't need to show or concede any sympathy to either Feminism or 'Women's issues' in generalthe same lame shitlib buzzwords y’all complain Where did I do that, lol. I'm fully supportive of the term toxis masculinity and the ideas behind it. Kneejerk indeed. Look in the mirror, lol. BTW, bro is masculine dipshit. | /r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates | 17/02/24 03:06 PM

Does anybody else realise…Best advice I've read in days. The internet is where a lot of socially maladjusted people go to pick fights, the best route is to not engage. | /r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates | 31/12/23 08:56 PM
The Hypocrisy of CircumcisionI see the difference, but you miss my point entirely, you are arguing the point very narrowly, ie. only focusing on safety. People are not only condemning the practice of circumcision because it is unsafe but ALSO because it causes harm. People didn't initially realize that lobotomies caused harm, you can only say that it permanently cripples brain function with the benefit of hindsight. I hope you can understand this argument. | 7 | The Hypocrisy of CircumcisionFrontal lobotomies used to be medical practice as well (their creator even won a Nobel Prize for inventing the procedure). Practices can (and should) change with the times. | /r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates | 13/12/23 10:04 PM
why is the concept of "male loneliness epidemic" such a controversial topic among female/feminist groups?" like it was a gender war" Unfortunately, to those particular people, it is. Some people never seem to move past a "girls against boys" mentality. | /r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates | 06/12/23 10:17 PM
