There’s a clue! If your situation is anything like mine, you’ve probably watched your parents interacting more like business partners than lovers. Not helpful…

A large chunk of this content is something akin to humble-bragging (could call it victim-bragging or something). They want to talk about their experiences without looking like they're boasting so they couch it in terms of "omg all these guys come up to me and talk to me, ugh, how awful". I've heard this in a handful of conversations with women irl and they seemed to think it made them look cool (it doesn't).

I've picked up a technique over the past couple of years that works to challenge generalising thoughts. When I notice a thought that says "that person looks like X, therefore they are Y" I say to myself "Maybe... Maybe they are, maybe they aren't, most likely they have a little of that attribute inside of their character. Whether they indulge it or not, I can't really tell until I get to know them." Seems to help me. Might take a little time to build the habit. YMMV.

"Make him work for it" is akin to telling a guy to fake being rich or having dark triad traits to attract women. Completely fake and useless for the long term.

men don’t respect women that they don’t have to chase (so we’re taught) Who is teaching you this and why do you believe it?

I'm sorry about that. How are you getting on in the world now that you're out?

Pretty interesting. I was raised in a "spiritual movement". I like to call it a cult, and it does have some of the qualities they outlined in the documentary, but it doesn't quite meet all the criteria because people are not really taken advantage of. The forums they mention can sometimes exhibit some cultish behaviour but you could say the same about most online communities. They certainly don't fill all the criteria. Pretty tenuous imo.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
