Medium is about on par with Gawker drivel as far as tech goes. There's a few good articles every now and again, but mostly the super lofty, "wouldn't it be nice if we did x / had y / adobted z.." kinda stuff. The whole analogy the bit is based around makes pretty much no sense. Even if you try. The only real truth is the first half of the last full paragraph. People being the operative word. We need more awesome people in tech.

Probably what pisses me off more than the clearly erroneous placement of Carmack, is there's no mention of any of the shit that actually made him influential. Rage was meh at best.

To be perfectly honest, I stopped reading at "scientific community" and patriarchy in the same sentence. Patriarchy Theory is this hilariously nebulous idea that could only make a sliver of sense taken from a dogmatic / ideological standpoint. Except for every reasonable claim the MR movement has, AVFM prescribes to the "one step forward, three steps back" philosophy.
