I’ll be harsh, but you need to hear the reality… First, this point moving forward, do NOT give in to her. Do NOT move out, this is your house. Do NOT trust her, even though it hurts. She’s going to use your love and emotions to get everything out of you since she’s already looking for her best interests. She’s probably already got a lawyer and two steps ahead of you. It doesn’t matter how good of a husband, father, friend you were. Women are leaving us for any reason. They don’t want counseling,…

I’ve been divorced twice, both times took exactly 60 days, the state minumum. No lawyers the second time. I’d say I’ve been really lucky.

Sounds like husband stuff to do. Not your problem!

This is really harsh, but it’s what OP needs to hear. You don’t owe her anything, don’t give her the benefit of the doubt. If you want to play nice, file immediately and see if you can come up with an amicable settlement. See if you can get through this without lawyers. Your focus is now your son and yourself.

My two ex-wives both left without warning, no counseling, no talking about it, they decided it was over. The bottom line with my experience is that no one wants to fight to save anything. Social Media is filled with unhappy women who want to bring happy women down and how much life is better without your husband who doesn't wash the dishes and doesn't buy you flowers enough. Honestly, this was the best scenario for me with both situations. I'll never get married again without some sort of prenup…

I was upset about it, but a year later, she doesn't deserve my last name.

Great advice. I wouldn’t even post this on Reddit that you got it.

Second this. Depending on your jurisdiction, you may be entitled to the entire inheritance.

Once a judge signs off, they’re very difficult to change unless both parties agree. If she has full custody now, then verbally told you that she wants 50/50 in a year…. Good luck. Get it in writing now.

Does your state not have parenting guidelines? Always default to what divorce documents say, she can't change shit to get back at you. Once the agreement is signed, it's hard for her to change it unless there's a major change that affects your children directly. Minimize the communication, document as another poster stated.

Women walk out for little things. Trust is gone, there’s no turning back.

Same. Things were one sided and I never really talked. Turned out that she needed to work on herself in order to solve our issues.

Can you just hire a lawyer for yourself, who represents you? If she wants to go on the cheap, then she can communicate to your lawyer, who is looking out for your best interest. Do not trust your soon to be ex-wife, she isn't your friend. You need to look forward, and put yourself in the best possible scenario moving forward.

This is a bad idea. A lawyer needs to represent one side, not both. The only winner is the lawyer. If you both can agree (and have it signed ASAP), then just file the paperwork yourself, you do not need a lawyer.

She’s already planning for plan B.

It gets better. Work on yourself and talk to someone. When I got to that point, I knew I needed therapy, and it was good just to talk to someone. There's more to life than being married, you'll find someone that appreciates you and loves you. To get to that point, you need to work on yourself. THINGS WILL GET BETTER!

Social Media and toxic friends tell her the grass is greener. You deserve better when she comes back.

Good outlook. She divorced you, you owe her nothing.

Yep... She left, the trust is gone. There's no point dwelling on it. Find a hobby that doesn't cost a lot of money that can use some of your free time. I had a similar scenario and it came out of nowhere. She's not your priority anymore, you are the priority.

I hid mine. Still haven’t changed it after it went final.

This happened to me as well. People post stupid things to get more views, thus seen more. If your spouse believes a random stranger over you, then the trust was already gone. It’s a sad reality of social media brainwashing.

Almost exactly the same. She took a lump sum and I got to keep my house and retirement.

Similar Situation. Amicable split. $170 to file at the court house. She gave me a fair settlement offer that let me keep my house and 401k. Should be final in a couple of weeks.

Single, no. But I don't see any point of ever getting married again. There is no major benefit when one person can leave whenever and take half of what you've worked your entire life for.

You WILL be better after this phase. It won’t be easy, put yourself first for now. If you need someone to talk to, feel free to PM and I’d be happy to talk.

Don't get married. There's hardly any benefit even if you find the right one. At any time they can walk away for no reason.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
