It was also a conditioned mentality. Meet someone, settle down, have kids, live happily ever after. Being single means you can't meet society's expectations, right? Yeah, at the expense of your own happiness if you make a bad choice early on and then try to do the 'right thing' by sticking by your bitch of a woman. I chewed on the blue pill for many years and I agree, I was living by a 'bitch mentality' because I was trying to do 'the right thing'. (There are obviously complications because she …

I would reword it slightly, 'Whatever you are doing is what you are most comfortable doing'. Because let's face it, we get in positions which are comfortable and getting out of that rut would require so much effort it's much easier just to remain where we are. I'm in a rut, I'm desperately trying to get out of it. Self education, Self Awareness, applying for work that pays better and offers better conditions. But I can't have one without the other, I need to self educate and earn my certificates…

After being introduced to the TRP in 2014 by a good friend, I largely ignored it. Which would squarely place me in the first phase, over the period of the following year me and my fianceé grew increasingly apart for several reasons. As I've said a few times before on this subreddit, she passed away in May 2015. That's around the time I came back to TRP, I didn't want to make the same mistakes twice. So I swallowed the thing whole - I didn't go through the stages of anger/bargaining or depression…

This. Exactly This. Prior to coming to terms with my independance I needed a relationship and I would often compromise to get it. I was lucky and had a reasonable relationship for several months before the girl passed away. Since then I've 'checked the market' and always come back with the assumption that I won't lower my standards, just because that's all that's available to me at this time. Whereas previously it would anger me that certain women wouldn't respond to me, or acknowledge me - I ju…

Thanks for the response! I have managed to get three days a row in the gym, which is unheard of for me. Although I am not counting calories I have become very conscious of what I'm eating. I've dropped eating from the restaurant at work, for eating at my desk meals I've prepared - thus far not the healthiest of meals but it's a habit I'm building and the research on that will come soon. (Bit by bit and all that!). I am very wary of 'sharing' my online present with my offline friends, likewise, o…

Deep Breath My first post here, and given the comments I've read I might be heavily judged. However here goes. Gym is something I've been pondering for many months, if not years - however I have social anxiety, I don't do crowded places - I struggle shopping in a super market. Second to this, I used to do a lot of sport in my youth and as a result I have a 'dodgy' knee. Excuses? Maybe. I've been lurking here for sometime, but only this past weekend did I sit down and actually make an effort to r…
