Intoxication means she can't legally consent Probably don't want to get your legal advice from a "media activist". No wonder the comments are closed.

First, did any of you read the original paper? It's behind a paywall, so I can't access it, but media always over-hype these things. At least let's see how they determine these numbers before forming an opinion. Second, you can't use these numbers alone to prove discrimination by gender or race. Specifically, the number of people not arrested for any given activity is not recorded anywhere. it would be different if you had evidence showing that say, half of all underage drinkers confronted by po…

This is why story comments are so annoying. There's no dialogue. The person posts and moves on. If I could be as fair as possible to this person, I would assume this: what they meant was, they would be so convincing that the person would eventually agree, and that a woman forcing herself on a man is literally impossible. She's wrong, but I'm trying to at least give her the benefit of the doubt. But you don't get to even have this conversation on a news outlet comment thread.

Vela said she'd become suspicious after smoking marijuana. You don't say. Vela allegedly "cut him deep" with a box cutter, then let him go. The man was treated at a local hospital, and the extent of his injuries has not been released. Vela and two other individuals, who were not arrested Wait what? How is someone not arrested in that situation? On a side note, I'm not sure what the problem is supposed to be with the reporting. Seemed fine to me.

This isn't really a good representation of reality. Know who gets the most "government handouts"? People with children. Huge tax deduction. Free education. Know who else gets a large chunk? People who own a house. Mortgage deduction. And yes, that is free money from the government that the nuclear family did not earn, that other taxpayers are covering. Both of these are large parts of the nuclear family. Also, how did we get on the subject of single mothers, specifically? The article was about s…

Feminism didn't destroy the nuclear family. And even if it did, who says the nuclear family is good? Relaxed attitudes toward sexuality and the ability for women to earn a living made the nuclear family less-necessary. It's not gone. You can go have one right now.

In mice. Even the study they link to from Australia, is a data pool from an earlier study that was not about the effect of fathers on children.

That's a very poor headline for that article. More broadly it could be asked, how easily do men and women get their sexual needs met. In any case, we are including both single people and those in a relationship. But the author doesn't really ever go deeply enough to explore that, just sort of brings it up as an open question.

I'm with you, sort of. Keep in mind this is a law professor suggesting this. If you can argue that it's a form of self-defense, that it was the only way to stop the abuse, then you have the right to stand up for yourself, even to the point of murder. People assume that cops or relatives or some kind of shelter are always available and can fix any problem, but that's not reality.

Lots of people who voted for Obama don't like him, but not related to anything with health care. This isn't an ideal situation but it's a step in the right direction. The things we don't like Obama for are things that would have been exactly the same is a Republican president were in office.

The population who voted for Obama least were senior citizens living in "red" states. And they don't care about the ACA because they have Medicare. So I'm not sure what you mean.

Well, get sick and injured more often and you too can be getting as much out of your insurance policy as everyone else. What a bunch of idiocy in these comments. You are acting exactly like the people you make fun of - painting yourself to be a victim so you can bathe in self-pity. Do you really think insurance works differently now than it did in the past.

By charging new customers. It's not free, you know. In some cases the government subsidizes it, like they have been doing for years with Medicaid. In some cases, not.

So, the entire gym is co-ed except for 2 hours a week? That seems like a giant pain in the ass for both the gym and the customers, to satisfy what I would imagine is a minority of people. Who apparently pay for a gym they go to an hour a week?

I think part of the issue here is how people use Facebook. I don't see anything wrong with being annoyed at obvious flirting by a cashier, or being called "honey". But then you have 2 kinds of people on Facebook - those that use it to share something important or to make a statement, and those that use it as an extension of their internal dialogue. If you see type 2, and you think they're trying to make an important statement, it skews the message you think you're getting. This discussions shoul…

I agree that the girls are fine and the boys were assholes. I'm not sure what the correct response is - maybe it should involve school-level discipline like suspension or something, I don't know. But child porn charges should be reserved for people who are raping little kids and filming it.

If there's a take-home message here, it's that society deal with mental illness very poorly and there is a lot of needless suffering. We can't just rely on parents because they're sometimes not equipped to recognize when depression or anxiety is at an abnormal level. I won't even pretend to know what the right answer is, but if there's anything that needs more awareness, more than cancer or diabetes, it's this.

It's an algorithm that completes your search based on what's out there. So for example, if the most popular page on the internet is titled "spiders eat dog poop", and you type in "spiders", that phrase will be the number one hit. It doesn't matter if people never type in the entire phrase into the Google search box. I suspect a lot of these sayings are trawled from blogs, comments sections, and the like. Even Reddit comments.
/r/MensRights20/10/13 09:20 PM

Well, not saying what happened there, but I've found that some websites that allow comments allow you to log in via Facebook. So you end up on a blog for example, and the comments section looks JUST like a Facebook discussion thread, even though none of these people know each other.

Well, if you do have dry flaky skin, there are some moisturizers out there marketed to men - they don't have a fruity scent and probably have some spf in there too. It's worth it. Don't get me wrong, I totally understand if a parent feels uncomfortable that their 14 year old is dating a 19 year old, or that they're having sex at all. We see stories like this on here because they are often applied differently to men and women, but we shouldn't be dragging women into the pit men are in, we should be lifting men out of it. I realize what the law is, we all do. But public dialog can change laws. The other issue is that everyone always argues that they don't understand consent…

The whole consent thing is retarded. Everyone clearly knows the difference between two 14 year olds having consensual sex, and one 14 year old raping another. They can obviously consent to intimate contact. Suddenly when the partner is 19 they can't? Equating consenting to a 19 year old with rape? Based on very lame rationalizations. It's different with children (pre-teens), they don't know anything and really need to be watched all the time. But teens? No one in this story is a danger to anothe…

Pedophilia is attraction to preteens. If you hit puberty, you are no longer attractive to pedophiles. Most of the "victims" on that page were older teens. A few were younger teens. A few were over 18. I'm all for firing a teacher for fucking her 16 year old student, but who is being protected by putting that person in jail? And yes the same applies if the genders are reversed. The U.S. is barely better than the Taliban when it comes to teenagers and sexuality.

Doesn't every parent teach their kids of both genders how to keep themselves safe? It's not rape-specific, it's just general stuff about making sure someone knows where you are, etc. On the flip side, I doubt many parents tell their kids how to not rob someone, or how to not blow up a bridge. I can see the idea of consent come up in a conversation with a young teen who's just learning about sex. Maybe. I think the subject makes parents uncomfortable enough that they stick to the bare minimum. Al…

Real incest can result in babies that have more hereditary diseases. This is really a misunderstanding. Incest as the prime mode of reproduction over many generations can result in some genetic clownery. A single incident on incest carries an additional chance of genetic disease that is virtually zero.

I'll grant that in certain circles, "keeping your woman in line" is seen as positive or manly, but in the real world where most of us live, it's seen as very troubling to have any violence in your household or relationship.

Something similar happened on an episode of The X-Factor last week. A woman was auditioning and was doing badly, the judges told her no, so she keeps singing, then walks over to Simon, holds him down, and starts kissing all over his face and neck. You can most certainly be a victim of a crime and not yet have anyone charged with it, or arrested, or tried and sentenced. Especially with a crime like rape, that is so hard to prove, it's pretty inhuman to tell someone that since we can't arrest anyone, it must not have really happened.

This is generally true, however: Getting hit in the throat or balls, or even the eyes, hurts a LOT even if the person is weak. Response doesn't have to be a full on fist fight. Simply grabbing or trying to subdue someone is a reasonable response, but to onlookers it will appear to be a full on fist fight.

Generally, women get a lot of comments about their clothing outside of any discussion about rape, and men don't, probably because of a repressive society that thinks any hint of female sexuality needs to be shamed into being hidden. Especially for teens. If you're a guy, you've never had to deal with this.

Take sex out of the equation and look at it from another perspective. "I was at a party. I said I wanted to leave at 10 but we stayed until 11. I didn't say anything, no one stood in the doorway. Was I kidnapped?" "I told my friends I didn't have a lot of money and I couldn't chip in for the pizza. But when the delivery man came I gave them $5. Was I robbed?" This argument, as I see it, is that a girl is hurt more by the act of statutory rape because her peers make the experience worse, where a boy is not harmed as badly for the opposite reason. Since when do we determine the seriousness of a crime based on how your peers respond afterword? Is punching a woman less serious than punching a man because the woman will be comforted but the man will be sneered at for not being "tougher"? Of course not.

I can only guess at the minds of prosecutors, police, and juries, but I'm assuming is that the theory is that unwanted sex by a woman means less lubrication, so more tearing. So the questions become: Is it true there is less lubrication? How is this determined? What is the baseline amount of tearing? We can't assume it's zero. How far from the "average" amount of tearing is needed before it becomes suspicious - i.e. evidence of possible or probable rape?

I'm curious what universe you live in, where money is distributed based on who works harder.

Wow, this really sets a precedent that will come to haunt a lot of women. On a side note, how did they come up with a specific cash amount?

Sorry but 19 and 15 is not sexual "abuse" no matter which gender is which age. What a ridiculous culture.

Whoever wrote that doesn't want a boyfriend, she wants an accessory. Both genders do act this way. /shrug

Not all money is put toward a cure. In fact most isn't. A lot of it is free screenings, cosmetic surgery (imagine being a young single female with only one tit), and help with treatments.

If they simply separate by gender, but give the same class to both sets, it's fine. If they offer a class ONLY to girls, then that's discrimination.

Yeah, I'd rather see more treatment like this than ruining people's lives who are not dangerous.

"But there is one group who may receive preferential treatment today - disabled people with special mobility needs, Ashdown says." This is the worst idea ever. If you have to wait for people using a wheelchair to get on a lifeboat, you're ALL going to drown.

Would you rather know that prisoners are as unhappy as possible, or would you rather them get out and not commit crimes again? America has a big hard on (excuse the pun) for punishment for the sake of retribution without any regard for rehabilitation.

I think it's equally valid to ask why Kobe should have ever had $380 million to begin with.

Then they'd stay on one of the floors that allows both genders. From the article it seems that most floors are mixed.

It depends. If the kids are strangers, for example you're behind them in line at the store, things can go from playful to creepy really fast regardless of gender. If it's an acquaintance, like a co-worker, a lot more is tolerable, and I think this woman's experiences are less about the woman being creepy and more about people feeling sorry for her and insecure about that feeling.

No offense OP, but it sounds like you live with an unstable partner. I've certainly never had this experience. My girlfriend is disappointed if I decline sex, but there's no drama.

They stopped using it during the Vietnam War so that protests would shrink. Now they just offer poor people free college and a decent pay and get all the volunteers they could ever need. I'm fine with it existing if it is only ever used for defense during a legally declared war (the last one of those was WWII) against an invading army on U.S. soil (last was... civil war I guess).

I think the reason this happens so much is that if the husband isn't taking care of her, the state will, and there's a lot of pressure to make sure the fewest number of people are relying on state welfare due to situations like this. Especially if children enter the picture. Not saying it's right, just my observation.

I've dated online before. I made a point to say that first date we always split the bill. You weed out some riffraff that way. I also never had a problem getting dates. I think this woman is in the minority. Which has to be true, because if she was typical, the men in her dating pool would have changed their behavior by now. Also, $1200 a month? That's $40 a night, for one person. Seems an exaggeration.

I don't see a problem with the responses. No one's condoning her activity.

Actually, I have no problem with someone who doesn't want black people touching their child. That's their right. But I do have a problem with someone telling an audience that only black people abuse children, using statistics they made up themselves.

Why is a University investigating crimes anyway? Not like this is cheating on a test, it's an actual law, let the police handle it.

The way I see it, if you're not responsible for your actions while drunk, then you can drunk drive and kill an entire family and not get charged with a crime. If you ARE responsible, then it can't be rape. Can't have it both ways. Yes, if someone's passed out, it's rape. No, it's not rape because someone was drunk.

The article says she primarily used him as the father for some tax credit. So it's possible he was only asked for actual cash a few times.

What's different about this case (as opposed to some others posted here recently) is that she wasn't targeting a specific person. Which makes it kinda sad. It sounds like she needs some mental help more than she needs jail.

Calling someone a bigot immediately ends the conversation. You can't prove they are, they can't prove they're not, it doesn't matter if they are anyway, and the conversation tangents into some weird area where you debate what it means to "hate" an entire group of people. Is someone who thinks women are worse drivers than men a misogynist? Is someone who said nigger once 10 years ago a racist? Is someone who thinks Palestine should have their own government an anti-Semite? Who knows and who cares…

This really depends on your neighborhood. Some people live in places where anyone outside your door is likely to rob you. I'm lucky enough to live in a place that sees almost no crime outside of the usual (domestic abuse, petty theft).

Sorry but at 16, either gender, you are either capable of deciding who touches you and who doesn't, or you should be locked in a cage. This statutory rape bullshit should be saved for children, not teens. Just because a relationship might make you uncomfortable doesn't mean someone needs to go to jail.

I disagree. 90% of what you'll get in your lifetime is because you nagged your way into it. Job, vacation, getting spouse to do chores, getting friend to go to the movies with you, etc.

I think it's a gray area, legal definitions be damned.
/r/MensRights04/09/11 02:26 PM

So if we find out that YOU have a recessive genetic disease, should we be allowed to legally prevent you from having children? Also, this is largely a myth. Yes the chance is higher, but we're talking turning a one in one million chance into say, a 2.5 in one million chance. still very unlikely.

That's because the law and most people (including women) see women as property, whose value is determined by how much dick they've had, or how much it is said they've had (willingness doesn't matter, a rape victim is as worthless as a whore). And anyone who devalues that property is going to pay.

If 2 drunk people fuck, it's not rape, even if one regrets it after. Passed out is another matter, but drunk and not making the best decisions doesn't make it rape, no more than drunk driving means the car is responsible for running into a phone pole.

There's no way they're going to pay back any money. Single parents don't keep large amounts of cash on hand.
