I've heard of guys telling the judge that "she said she was 18" and it wasn't an excuse. Like all guys have to basically become experts in spotting fake IDs and check the ID of every single person they hookup with. When you expect something to be the case, you tend to miss the things that will make you realize you're wrong. It's a well known and studied phenomenon, and it happens to everyone, even when they're in the top of their cognitive ability. You meet a young looking person in a scholl, you assume they're underage. You meet them in a 18+ club, you assume they are 18.
