Why though? The bench press is like the #1 thing people seem to use the SM for.

Not for the bench press too? The SM isn't tall enough for me to do a full overhead press, so I'm not sure whether to just lift it to the 75% of my full extension on the SM standing, or do full extension seated and just supplement with with crunches for the abs. Dips and pull-ups aren't a problem there, I don't see where they work into the program though?

Yep, pretty much. Maybe it's just a rookie gym mistake, but I've been hitting the gym for weights a solid 3 times a week for the past month. First few times was pretty rough and I was completely drained after I left, but it got considerably easier the next few weeks, to the point where I felt like I wasn't pushing myself hard enough. So maybe I pushed too hard in the other direction. I dunno, I'm still early in the process so I'm still figuring things out. Right now it feels like my legs are tel…

You're not wrong. It wasn't my intention to go in that day and do anything but the leg workout, but I decided wtf lemme give this StrongLifts thing a shot. Turns out I much more prefer the intense full body workout than the isolation exercises. Second day was just the 5x5. But even then I'm not strictly following the program, because the only gym I can really go to right now is planet fitness because it's cheap and close. I have two small children so money and time is tight, and I don't have the…

I'm not looking to quit, just don't want to do more harm than good by overtraining. My first mistake was to start StrongLifts the same day as a relatively unsatisfying (ie not punishing enough) leg workout, adding the squats on top of that was probably too much for one day. My legs were still a little sore on day 2 but I did it anyway, and now they're even more sore 2 days later. To the point where walking up a flight of steps is a little unpleasant. I'm more than willing to just power through t…

Was about to post my own topic but I'll fold my questions in here: Just started StrongLifts a week ago, after moving over from a 3 day split program. Today is gym day, but between the squats and the deadlifts my thighs are still sore as hell from the last session. Should I really be squatting again today while I'm in this state? Should I just power through it, just do the benches and rows and skip the squats, or ease off the program entirely until my legs can recover? Also, I respect the simplic…

I can def relate to this. Becoming a father is where the slide into beta really happened for me. I was already somewhat unhappy in my career. I just bitched about it, told myself everyone hates their job, this is what it means to be an adult etc. Despite the fact that I wasn't happy 8 hours every day, having the other 8 to myself was enough time to balance it out where I wasn't miserable, same for my wife. Still it was enough to blame for everything I didn't do, too tired to go to the gym etc. B…

My gut tells me you're right here. Since it's not a knowledge gap, it's a motivation gap, I need to actively engage to counteract the excuses/hamstering. She was already working out and making some progress before she got pregnant with the last kid, and then that provided all the excuses (many legitimate for a while) she needed to stop. And that was on her own, before I started working out as well. Now that I've scratched off the list "well he's not working out so I don't have to either", "he ne…

Yeah, I know she's obviously eating around maintenance, just saying it's not an issue of her not realizing you can't eat Doritos all day long and not gain weight. She's not pigging out and packing it on or anything like that. She knows what she has to do to start losing it, she just doesn't want to do it (yet).

I try and keep junk food to a minimum, our fridge and pantry is filled with pretty much those things you listed. No Doritos, sodas, cookies or anything like that. Closest thing to junk food in our house right now is goldfish and pretzels that are theoretically for the kids, but I've caught her on the couch with an open bag of goldfish. For dinners we typically do basic meats + vegetables, rarely anything fried or too heavy on carbs. She very much understands how calories and nutrition works, it'…

Yeah, this was something I was already thinking about doing, throw in some sit-ups, push-ups, etc between gym days. I'm focusing on results at the gym though so I don't want to hinder my progress by overtraining though. I'd appreciate any advice/resources on how to integrate home workouts with lifting hard at the gym 3 times a week.

That's what I've mostly been doing. But what you're saying is continue to lead by example, set expectations, encourage her, take charge of diet/cooking etc...but as far as actually working out, continue to do my own thing on my own time and leave her to do the same?

You react to this by boning her, cause that's what she wants. Whatever RP stuff you've been doing is working, and you didn't claim the prize. But she doesn't want to bone you if you don't want to bone her. Neither of you are mentally retarded right ? You know she was only pretending. She knows you know that. You know she knows that too. So there was absolutely no reason to play along with it. Next time she grabs your cock, give it to her.

Seriously, what's the point? What's the consequence if she violates that rule? It's not like a normal person needs to be told not to cheat on their spouse and then tracked by GPS, you know? IMO she's already violated you enough. Like seriously, she cheated on you, you told her not to see him and she basically spat in your face. She does not give a fuck. What more do you even need to happen here? Just do whatever you were going to do if you caught her again, because you already did catch her.
/r/askMRP26/07/16 11:37 PM

She'll only be able to feel what you felt when she's the one who's afraid of losing you because she genuinely wants you as much as you clearly want her. You're so far from that right now it's not even funny. If she was afraid of losing you she wouldn't be cheating in the first place. See the problem here? In order for her to step in your shoes, you need to step in hers, and stop giving a fuck about whether she stays or goes.

Was "I'm not responding to that tone" not clear enough? Like sure in retrospect this was more of a nuke than any sort of amused mastery, but I was crystal clear about how I will no longer be spoken to in that manner. It wasn't "I'll do what you want if you promise not to talk to me like that." or "I don't deserve to be spoken to like that because I do A, B and C and would never speak to you like that." It was just "I'm not responding to that tone." Full stop. The past few days before that I just…

Lol no wonder my Star Wars obsessed wife loves Han Solo so much. She says I'm a scoundrel so I guess that's a compliment. :p

It wasn't really directed at her, more of a "oh snap, this is so exactly the way the RP lit described a shit test. " It was like when Neo finally saw the matrix as code behind it. Like finally seeing it for what it was rather than getting wrapped up in it...it was a relief. I couldn't help myself cause it was genuinely amusing and it completely erased all the tension in my mind. I made no effort to hide my amusement, but it wasn't really intentional to get under her skin or whatever. It's alread…

I'm gonna warn you right now, pregnancy is where I really started fucking up and going beta. I gave her way too much leeway to give me shit once she got pregnant (especially with #2) and it only increased over time. You still need to hold your ground and recognize a shit test when you see one. If you know that you do your part then the rant about you not doing stuff around the house is the quintessential shit test. Only you know whether or not that's true, no one on the Internet is going to be a…

Cause I have a baby too, and they don't give a fuck about schedules. Which pretty much throws everything else for a loop. But TBH last to bed and first to wake is one of the MRP platitudes that I don't buy into anyway. The woman I married isn't so weak of mind, body and spirit that she needs a man around to guide her literally every second of every day. She's a capable woman and I trust her to handle shit when she has to.

If you have your act together, why should you tolerate someone who's only borderline decent? Why do or should you have lower expectations for her than you have for yourself? Obviously I don't know your wife, but I suspect I'd be saying similar things if I let it slide for so long. My wife can be incredibly nasty when she's in a bad mood (which can seemingly last for weeks) and she used to be sexy but she's completely let herself go after the kids. But I didn't gain weight even if I don't work ou…

Thanks. Yeah I mean honestly it kills me a little that I lost sight of how simple it really is when it comes down to it. I spent way too much time blaming her for this or that. Thinking to myself that she's such a bitch and starting to resent her for all the shit she gave me. And even if she didn't know it, all she ever really wanted was for me to stand up for myself. Like this red pill stuff has completely validated the way I used to be before we had kids, and it's shocking how fast her attitud…

Mostly because that plays to our weaknesses instead of our strengths, and TBH it'd probably just swap a shit test in the morning for a shit test at night. It's really not a big issue anyway.

Doesn't really matter, cause I'm not her punk. If she doesn't actually need help then I'm going back to sleep.

She's already gotten over the rebuke and is being all cutesy/flirty with me. It was just a shit test, not some intractable problem of scheduling. :p I help her when she needs help because she might have had a really rough night with the baby. Neither of us have been fully well rested for months. I trust that she won't ask me for help unless she genuinely needs it, so of course I've got her back. But I won't let her try and bully me into it.

That's the wrong attitude dude. It's awesome to be a man because people will respect you for being exactly what you want to be and doing what you want to do, as long as you're self assured. This isn't hard, it's easy. You'd be surprised how quickly you realize that "crazy" is a response to your behavior and not some innate personality trait. She'd be less anxious if she had more faith in you. You'd be surprised how quickly that can change too. You genuinely want to live in a mountain cabin and t…

Oh no don't get me wrong. The overarching issue is definitely me. This is way more over-analysis than I ever expected about the situation lol. But anyway I'm not blaming her or butt hurt that she's shit testing me, I expect it and I'm fine with it. I'm not complaining about my situation, her behavior or anything like that. I don't blame her for acting that way, because I allowed my boundaries to slide to the point where she felt like she could talk to me that way over just about anything. Like I…

I dunno then, what would you suggest? The "I go to bed later/you wake up earlier" was an arrangement intended to improve things given our challenging situation, and it has. Nothing is going to be perfect and if you think that there's some way to completely prevent a toddler from getting a woman bent out of shape every now and then, then you definitely don't have kids. But I can't be expected to monitor and step in to a situation when I'm literally unconscious. I can take responsibility for my co…

So stay up till 1am every night so she doesn't have to deal with the baby at night, and then wake up at 6am to to deal with the toddler? So she can get ten hours of sleep every night, while I get five, just to get ahead of any potential she's in a shitty mood in the morning? Like how is that not putting her on a pedestal?

TBH I didn't think it needed to be said because I had framed it as a shit test and I assumed people would take my word at that, rather than dissect whether or not it was a shit test. But fair enough. She's not normally struggling anyway, that's what made it such a shit test.

This was not "get up and do what you're supposed to be doing", because I wasn't supposed to be up at that point and she knows it. It was her losing her cool and coming at me before I even knew what was going on. Like there's two opposing things here. She needed help, no problem with that. But she came at me right out of the gate. If I immediately get up in response to her shit test and do what she was barking at me to do, even if I don't engage how is that not complying and validating her shit?

To be clear as well, our arrangement is that she gets up earlier due to circumstances I've explained in other replies. That arrangement is well understood by both of us. I dunno about you, but I don't wake up in a blink and I'm instantly at 100%. All this shit that's supposedly going down is far away enough in the house that I'm literally sleeping through it. Like I get the whole man always in charge thing but I trust her to handle her shit when she's supposed to, that's what this whole arrangem…

Nope, chaos is not the norm. The norm is her waking up a little earlier (because I got to sleep a lot later) and she handles it just fine. Ive got nothing to apologize for. In fact the day before she wasn't even home and I took care of both just fine without her. I'm doing my part, trust me. But you prob know how toddlers go. Sometimes they press just the right button. Most of the time she'll ask me to get up a little earlier and I have no problem with that. She straight up assaulted me with a s…

We both work, we have a baby and a toddler. I stay up late to handle the baby between 9-1am so she can get a few hours uninterrupted sleep, because A) my work hours start two hours later than hers and B) I'm naturally a night person and she's a morning person. That's our arrangement and me being in bed a little longer than her is neither unusual nor a sign of laziness. There were some extenuating circumstances that contributed to her losing her cool that morning, but they had nothing to do with …

I was ignoring it up until she pulled the covers off me. In my mind for me not to at least respond at that point would have been letting her get away with too much. I didn't expect her to do that, she kinda caught me with my pants down, figuratively and literally. But you're right. I could have just gotten up and walked right past her, ignoring her shit. She didn't faze me but I did engage on some level, even if it was dismissive. Your response is def better.

It's not a guessing game because this behavior isn't completely out of character for me. I've always had boundaries but I haven't been consistently reinforcing them in the past few years. Ive never been her doormat but now with the kids around all too often I'd just comply to get her to STFU in the moment, and I let her get a little too used to talking to me this way. She'll well vetted, she's a strong woman and she knows what's up. She's been responding very well to my reawakening so far, the r…

I dunno, my instinct says telling her there are boundaries is a form of weakness, like I need her reassurance. Figure I'd just set the boundaries by action. I don't have to explain myself. This isn't a negotiation.

I didn't say anything after she stormed away. I just handled the kid. He gives me a lot less bullshit than he gives her anyway. She came over later and nitpicked something, and I just glanced and her and told her dismissively "oh chill out, just get ready for work." Stomp stomp stomp away of course. DNGAF.

Yes, this is exactly the case. The shit tests are a response to my recent reawakening. Alpha was my default for the first ten years we were together, IDNGAF before it was cool to NGAF, if you know what I'm saying. But I've been drunk captain on and off for the past two-three years, I wasn't fully self conscious of how much of a bitch I've been for a while now. But it's been about a week since I've got my head straight. I know deep down she likes it and wants it this way, because this is how thin…
