Good question. I think that if you stop to think a bit about the whole change you are going through instead of just blindly following the mantra "lift, STFU and read", you can easily get to the points you raised -- one might say that this thinking process itself is a problem (unfortunately I'm very familiar with beta over-thinking/ruminating), but that's a different topic. Most answers so far say that you should always initiate, and I can see that's the most practical way to go (to keep the over…

Same here! Very interesting points (even if they differ from my ideas here and there). 👍

Lost count of the number of times I've reread this. I'm not here in this subreddit for a long time, but this is very related to the conclusions I've come to so far. This distinction between the initial high (which, as you said, won't come back) and the effects of dread is something very important to keep in mind. And this fits perfectly with the idea of aiming for self-improvement instead of doing things to get your SO to be like she was in the beginning. Thank you for the contribution. 👍

Interesting post, thanks! If you don't mind me asking, how often do these situations you mentioned in your example happen?

In my case it didn't work. Things might get better in the new beginning, but gradually start to go back to the way they were before the break up. Additionally, this question reminded me of something from NMMNG (chapter 7): "Finally, Nice Guys have difficulty getting the love they want because they spend too much time trying to make bad relationships work. [...] I often joke that, on average, it takes Nice Guys about nine attempts to end a relationship".
