I once saw an apparently homeless man trying to interact with a woman on a city street. She looked uncomfortable, so I inserted myself into the conversation to draw the man’s attention away from her. She shot me a dirty look before getting on the bus. I think she thought I was trying to flirt with her, but really I was just trying to be helpful. (I’m pretty good at reading body language. And no, I’m not a player or “pickup artist.”)

I live in the U.S. three years ago, one of the largest newspaper chains here published a series of stories (10 or more) on suicide. At no point did they mention that men make up 80% of suicides. I searched every article. The anecdotal example in the first, main story was a woman.

Thanks. But any number you’re brave enough to bring up with a woman re: female rape victims, she’s extremely likely to times it by 10 and claim you’re an active part of rape culture. Btw, I took the FBI rape statistics for 2012, took the female victim numbers (for rape and all other sex assaults), timed it by 10 and came up with 4% of men over 15 committing these types of crimes (assuming no repeat offenders that year). And no, I’m not brave enough to bring that up with any female friends.

Can you cite a source? Everything I’ve seen is that women rape men at a much lower rate. I was surprised to find anyone studying female rapists to begin with ...

Yes, women can rape men. They do so at a much lower rate than men raping women, but most people still believe that women can’t rape men. The irony is that female raping of men supports the theory that rape is often based on an imbalance of power of men over women. Female rapists are typically teachers, youth center volunteers or jail/prison guards who have power over boys and men.

I'd be much more impressed if feminists promoted the Equal Pay Act from 1963 and encouraged and assisted women filing claims. The law and the grievance system is already in place.

I wouldn't call the best data we can obtain "false information." there is a difference between data that is as close as we can get to the truth vs. willfull misinformation. understanding that an academic study has a margin of error is different than saying "only men commit domestic violence" and "a woman can never rape a man."

Sen. Warren just suggested a law to protect female domestic violence victims from gun-owning abusers; that's great! We have resources for female victims of domestic abuse and rape, but I'm not aware of any for men. 80% of suicides are men, so why doesn't my doctor ask mental health screening questions during my yearly checkup. Where is the push for laws making dangerous jobs safer? Why aren't we looking at the cause of male homicide victims when men are 87 of homicide victims in the U.S.? The on…
