Congratulations on putting you finger on the existence of the unconscious and psychic defense mechanisms that preclude the former's content from irrupting into conscious awareness. People are unwilling to admit their actual desires all the time. These nevertheless manifest themselves in dreams and in symptoms (such as denial). Educating oneself on the reality of instinctual drives as opposed to what one admits to oneself will save these people countless headaches and frustrations. Someone is dri…

Some good points have been made here, but there are other reasons that are being overlooked: 1. She unconsciously associates a “dad” bod with her dad. Both men and women are frequently drawn toward partners that resemble their parents. I can’t believe you guys have missed this very obvious point. 2. a women’s preferences change according to her menstrual cycle. She tends to seek comfort and security when she is not at her peak fertility, the ovulation phase. A lean and athletic build may be more…

I agree on everything but the tan. I see your point but think tans are way overrated. It is good enough to just follow good skin care hygiene. A lot of Americans in particular, more noticeable on woman, have horrible skin by their early to mid 30s because they went out in the sun too much when they thought they were invulnerable in their 20s. Pair the above with all the sugar Americans eat, and it is no wonder why woman from the US look like shit compared by their 30s to comparably aged woman fr…

These are called covert contracts. One cause is the failure to directly assert one’s needs and to have those needs met. The cause of this, in turn, may be traced to childhood, when one’s needs are greatest. The child may learn that to assert his needs leads his parents to abandon him. As an adult, he thus operates according to a needless and wantless ideal but ironically becomes more needy by means of these covert contracts: I will do X for you if you do y for me in return but we will both be un…

People are often unconsciously drawn toward partners that resemble their parents; the self seeks comfort in the same, even if that is objectively harmful. This is why some some women find themselves continually drawn to abusive relationships or men might be drawn to a women who is emotionally cold and sexually unavailable. The key is to become more aware of how these unconscious forces are influencing your attraction.

I know what you mean. I think there is a line that one could draw from germaphobia to irrational "purity," even if the latter spills into moral "purity." The morally impure--sin--has long been associated with disease. Some psychotherapists specialize in OCD-like traits like this. It just so happens that my psychiatrist himself has suffered these symptoms. Alternatively, I am sure there are other resources available online, beyond this sub, that could help. Overt appeals to reason and logic will …

You can think of it like this. You did not know about the red pill before. So how can you blame yourself for acting against that which you were unaware? Not everyone can be expected to intrinsically possess, prior to experience, knowledge of how to navigate the world. Whether through genetics or social conditioning, something inside you propelled you to act the way you did, and at the time, you truly thought you were doing the right thing. Consider people from history who had no way of knowing w…

Depends on what medication. Commonly prescribed medications for OCD are SSRIs, like Zoloft and Prozac. Usually those have exactly the opposite effect, getting people out of the house and socializing. In fact, it sounds like your friend got more OCD on the meds. He needs to talk to his doctor ASAP to either discontinue or switch to something else. Is this exacerbated by his paranoia over the virus and being quarantined? This kind of situation is an OCD person’s worst nightmare.

The acting odd shit, though, is fucking with your head, pulling you into her frame. Your OP makes you sound uncertain and yet here you seem certain. Which one is it? She is clearly in experimental mode and is keeping you as one option among many, which is what you should be doing. I agree that you should forget her or at least keep her at a far distance. She probably has DMs incoming of multiple simps, and if not now, she one will. She isn’t “fuck yes” about you but appears like she is just sett…

That is more red flags than I could have imagined. Holy shit. And to imagine that she will be a nurse. What a fucking joke. Just to elaborate on a few, of which I am sure you may already be aware. Her inability to say no, vulnerability to peer pressure, self-harm scars, and tats point to a highly unstable, fluid self-identity that are the hallmarks of borderline personality disorder. She has no clue who she is, and this incapacity to be self-reflective marks her as living in a regressive, childl…
