It's always inappropriate for parents to unload their drama on the kids. If he is unhappy with his marriage it is on him to change that. The real problem is people, for some unknown reason, staying in miserable relationships. I spent most of my life living alone rather than be in a dead end relationship.

Keep in mind that people in healthy, loving relationships likely aren't coming to reddit to post when they have sex. Consider your sample of people here, the kind of person that needs reddit validation for their sex life. My husband and I share our reddit accounts, honestly a huge trust hurdle I had a hard time overcoming, and never once in his posting history has he felt the need to discuss his sex life. People who are content rarely go to reddit to talk about how content they are.

So I don't think there's a problem with looking for someone who has a similar attitude about sex as you do. My husband and I are both low sex drive and focus much more heavily on the emotional aspect of our relationship. Neither of us judges a person who has casual sex, but neither of us is a casual sex person either. It's okay for me to say I don't want to be with someone who's into the hook up scene because we'd be so different. If you feel sex is a special thing you share with someone there i…

Editing to add my tone is curious and interested, not aggressive or argumentative just in case it sounds that way. I hate it when discussions turn into arguments and I don't know how it happened. So I just try to take the gender labels out of it, because they're outdated. We don't call things men's or women's work in our house. My husband hates talking to strangers, so when we go to a drive thru I tell the person we're there to pick up a mobile order, or when someone comes to talk to us in a sto…

So the difference comes in whether or not you think you should lead because you're a man and she's a woman. If you think it's because of her gender and all women should do that it's toxic, it's it's because that's how you guys live then it sounds like a harmonious relationship. I take the leas every single time we have to talk because I know my husband hates it and wants me to, and that's just as valid as you taking the lead with your wife. So long as neither of us thinks the others' genitals ar…

So it's a conclusion I came to through years of therapy with professional help. I only experience attraction based on personality but people usually don't believe me when I explain that. Intelligence, a good laugh, compassion.. they all completely change the way a person looks to me. The problem with guys showing interest in me is that it usually makes me feel repulsed verging on nausea, because I don't trust what they will do when their interest is more than friendly. I have to fight internal m…

I used to think I was, I learned in therapy that asexuality is not traditionally associated with an actual hatred/repulsion for sex or being hit on. Unfortunately less than stellar men have defined sexuality to me, when that old man started telling me what he wanted to do to my body, after pretending to be my friend, I still hadn't finished puberty. I didn't know the names of my own body parts, I didn't even know how to masturbate. I learned all of that online, the internet was brand new in the …

Mostly it was being ghosted. I don't really emphasize that because the effect that had was minor. It hurt, it made me sad, it made me wonder why my company wasn't worth staying for. But rejection is part of life, so I wouldn't call that the biggest reason I don't really make male friends anymore. It made me cautious, but it's the few that get aggressive that caused me to decide it wasn't worth taking the chance anymore. There have been people that hit on me very politely, I work in customer serv…

Well when a person stops talking to you because you declined their advances you know why. You don't have to be a genius to pick up on the pattern after a decade and a half. I am never flattered when a man hits on me, it just makes me anxious. The first man to ever hit on me was in his 50s, and I was 12. Maybe I never had a chance to learn to enjoy it? Most girls I know also got hit on by older men as well. When I was a teenager I was awkward, overweight, and had acne. None of my male friends eve…

I don't have male friends, except the ones from high school. I stopped trusting them a decade ago. When I tried being friends with them they were never happy with that. Should women be flattered? That's a bit ridiculous to me. I don't get my value from other people. My value is internal and unaffected by whether or not a man or woman sees me as desirable. I couldn't give a fuck about being desirable to anyone but my husband. None of them wanted to "be my boyfriend." They just wanted reliable sex…

If they do that right after asking you for something, like sex or money, then that's a bad sign I think. I'm unwilling to say all guys are one way or another, people are so varied. If that was an all guys trait I think that would be an argument for guys making bad friends, but I don't think that's true. Honestly I think men just aren't allowed to have intimacy outside of a relationship, due to toxic gender roles, and that makes it hard for them to understand being close to someone they aren't ha…

It's not just about having sex with your friends, it's the part where the whole "friendship" is based on that desire and the other person stops talking to you when they realize you won't be sleeping with them. It hurts to think you had a friend then lose them. I stopped getting too close to guys in my late 20s, because I was scared of that outcome.

As a woman, men will girlfriend-zone you. You'll meet a guy who you think is your friend, you'll build a relationship with them, and then one day when you think things are going well they'll make the move. They'll want more than friendship, and that's not a problem by itself, but when you say no because you wanted a friend they will leave. Being rejected or turned down is painful, but so is being led to believe you've made a friend.

My husband is 5’6”. I’m 5’3” so he’s still taller than me but I have dated a guy who was slightly shorter than me. Some people don’t care, but it can be hard to find them.

Could I suggest “find things about yourself that you could be confident about.”?

I would suggest that anyone who is single late in life is someone who knows what they want and feels secure enough in being alone to wait for the right situation. Maybe it won't happen at all, but some people are okay with that. Personally I think it's better to spend your life alone and happy with yourself than married to someone you don't get along with well just because you were scared to be alone.

I try to ask myself "what's the worst that could happen? Rejection? I've been rejected before and I'll be rejected again." For what it's worth I pursued my husband and I had a struggle of my own with fear of rejection.

So if you messaged her on Facebook and not via text message is it not possible that she just really didn’t see it? I don’t use Facebook often so I can go months without knowing someone messaged me. Maybe she has been waiting for you to approach her in the gym? I don’t know, if it were me I’d just make one last effort just to be certain, approach her and ask if she’s still interested in meeting up again and get her number. It’s possible she’s doing the same thing you are, worrying you’re not inte…

Oh god it’s awful. I’m 35 and I’ve only learned how to stop myself reacting without thinking within the last 5 years or so. Personally I would start the conversation if I were you. A history of discrediting your feelings is not a good sign though. Someone once told me “just because it doesn’t make sense to you doesn’t mean I’m not feeling it” and I’ve carried that with me all my life since. If she’s not mature enough to understand that your feelings matter even if they don’t make sense to her th…

That’s completely understandable to me. I am also hyper sensitive to the little changes in a person’s behavior that could indicate lies or something to be worried about. I can’t speculate on your life but in mine it’s an observational habit learned from growing up around toxic, violent, and manipulative people. I never outgrew the need to constantly analyze behavior so I could be prepared for the next attack so to speak. So I carry that around with me, assuming the worst of others. I don’t know …

Is it possible she was just being reflective? I don’t know her so I couldn’t say but some days I talk all the time and then I’ll have a reflective kind of day where I clean, read, watch a movie and just kind of let my mind engage in the present. On those days I don’t really reach out to people, not because I’m hiding something but because I’m just taking in my own thoughts or feelings. Sometimes I get paranoid and assume the worst when people stop talking to me suddenly, especially if it’s uncha…

I think the archaic stereotype that men should bring more to the relationship probably dates back to days when women were expected to stay at home and look pretty. I can not honestly say that there aren't still women that expect all of their flaws to be forgiven while the men must make a ton of money and be physically perfect. Honestly I would describe myself as a recovering female mysogynist so the less rational part of me wants to agree that most women are like that. When I decided to work on …

I hope you don't think that I was calling you unintelligent. Being on this sub says to me that you are a person who doesn't just listen to what people say, that you question things and think for yourself. I definitely didn't mean that to sound like an insult. Honestly I don't think there's anything unreasonable at all about wanting what you want in a woman. If you want a fit attractive women and someone tells you there's something wrong with that then they're ignorant in my eyes. You don't tell …

As I understand the the general philosophy it comes down to one thing, women want a man of value. I haven't read a whole lot because I enjoy logic and any absolute statement (All women...) shows a lack of intelligence to me. It has nothing to do with with the people or their theories, being able to believe that all women or men will always behave a certain way is ignorant to me. Either way, that's not limited to women, all people want things of value. The issue I have with TRP philosophy specifi…

Not everyone shit tests and the kind if people that do aren't worth your time. You seem like a smart guy, ask yourself this. Given that each person's experiences in life change how they view things (if short was used as an insult my entire life I might get mad when I hear it even if it's not being used as an insult in that context) do you truly believe that there are any basic rules that will apply to every person you meet? Do you truly believe every woman would respond to the same actions/words…

Your responses really don't line up with your expressed desire to change. You respond to rational argument with anger. You stated an absolute. You did not say "some people will worship you because you have a vagina." You said men, as a whole, will always act a certain way. I provided an example of one instance when that is not true, and when dealing in absolutes all you need is one instance. Clearly the term always cannot be used because there exists at the very least one single time when it did…

I really think that's a reality created in your head. I'm not trying to be rude but many men are just as selective as you perceive all women to be. When I said that I'm in the same boat as you all I meant was that I do not receive much romantic attention. You seem to think that by having a vagina I am treated special, I am trying to show you that there are absolutely other factors. The way that you perceive all women to be treated is in fact just the way that all attractive people are treated. H…

I haven't read all of the replies here but have you never met a fat woman? If not fat lady checking in here, I can assure you my vagina has never won me any special treatment. Of course I have met women that have everything handed to them because they're beautiful, but the same thing happens for really attractive men. The tendency to be nicer to people who are pleasing to look at is a human trait. More of my life has been spent single than in a relationship. I would never even dare to go on okcu…
