You've misinterpreted my comment. I'm pointing out that you're reading OP wrong. ...and it's completely the right of these guys to talk to anybody, but I felt their approach very disrespectful since we were chatting "privately"...

Based on what OP said it doesn't sound so much like territorialism as it does just plain disrespect. They interrupted his conversation and flat out ignored him.

Treat them like they're already your friend. Greet them like you haven't seen them in awhile. Forget about trying to impress them, just concentrate on having fun and sharing the experience with them.

I know what you mean. I've gone through periods where my emotions had been suppressed, too, and it was always easier to be more confident and manipulative. The reason for that, I believe, is that your mind is less occupied by the thoughts inspired by emotional impulse, so your brain is more free to focus your thoughts and attention on what you need to do to accomplish whatever task you set for yourself. This is anecdotal, of course, but I've done a lot of thought experiments to measure my mental…

Being friends gives them openings to sabotage your social scene. If the bad relationship between two people were out in the open, most people would expect shit talking and take it with a grain of salt but when you're friends, people will accept their words as insider information. What do you think about demoting them to casual acquaintances? You can totally use their shit talking to your advantage though. Use a conversation about rumors as an opener. "What do you think about rumors?". Let that f…

When you think she's doing it, tell her you care about what she really thinks, whether you'll like it or not. You want to know about her problems, even if it involves you, because you want to make her life better in any way you can. Actually...maybe not WHILE she's doing it. She'll be in 'nice' mode, and trying to pin the issue down may just cause her to panic and skitter around to avoid what she might see as scary confrontation. Find a time when you're both unoccupied and talk to her about it. …

Haven't had a proper chance to reply till now. Thanks for that! I appreciate the information. I'd just like to note that advertising design involves somewhat different considerations than academic rhetoric. For example a business might adopt its street address or unit number, a two-word number, written numerically as part of its name. Sometimes its simply because it looks good, other times it might be because the advertiser wants their consumers to focus on something specific, which isn't a numb…

Some people do. Other people make the proper distinction. As I mentioned in another comment; Some people don't care, but many others do. To you who doesn't care whether it's '1000s' or 'thousands', you're happy either way so it won't affect OP's business. But to those that do, it may affect their willingness to put their trust in someone who tends not to do things properly.

Click-bait is tacky and unprofessional. Some people don't care, but many do and will count it as a strike against the organization. Not just because it's click-bait, but because it calls into question your intellect (it's a question of proper written English), and if you aren't confident that your service or product product can stand on its own and you have to use garish tactics to attract attention, what does that say about your service/product? Big flashing neon lights and a lot of exclamation…

Tiny piece of design advice: When you're talking about approximate numbers, write it in words: Thousands. 1000s is read as 'One Thousands', which sounds weird. All written numbers, 100, 1000, 1 000 000, they all read as 'One XXXXX'. Another reason not to write 1000s is that it focuses your attention on the numbers since the rest of the line is a just a hodge-podge of words.

We don't have the power to make the world, we just live in it. Well that depends entirely on what scope you're using when you say 'the world', which is why I specifically used 'community'. But anyway. Can you play god and dance everyone around on puppet strings? No. Well, certain people can, but anyone can nudge people in certain directions and influence their decisions and paths in life. Have you ever heard someone tell you "If it wasn't for you, I never would have..." ? That's irrefutable conf…

And because you've said that in a crowd that had people sitting on the fence, or just plain ignorant about the bigger picture, there will now be more people lined up to do that scummy shit. If you start telling other people that they should just do it because there'll be someone else to do the immoral stuff even if they don't, then of course there will be someone else. You make the community you live in. Either way it's a flimsy excuse and it doesn't absolve you from whatever assholery you're do…

Obligation, no. A courtesy it would be, but courtesies are not obligations. It really comes down to your sense of community, and the responsibility you feel towards up-keeping an upstanding community. How badly would you dread the same thing happening to you? How much empathy do you have for your fellow people? But it's not you responsibility how someone else chooses to live their lives. As double_whiskeyjack mentioned, they might not believe you. Informing them is the courtesy. You've given the…

lol I'm not even going to bother with your logic. My point was that OP could have phrased the title better. "Hey pathetic virgins click this link" would have been only slightly worse.

Great perspective to keep in mind, but don't forget that a lot of guys who have this problem generally don't have the self-awareness of it to go out looking for links to click on like this.

MadDogTannen's intent was to use 'semantic'/'substantive' as 'unimportant'/'important'. Semantics is about important distinctions. Pedantic has to do with excessive instruction, and therefor unimportant information. Of course, to the average anti-intellectual semantics is also unimportant (and for them that would be correct). Frankly speaking though, I generally don't care very much what anti-intellectuals have to say.

Not to be pedantic or anything (wink wink nudge nudge), but I don't think that word means what you think it does.

"Why" can also be a challenge, genuine curiosity or deep interest. It's all in how you frame it. People that only take certain words as sarcasm need more exposure to genuine people and manners.

When dealing with paying for things when out with people, there are 3 positions ones can take. Host, guest, or you're both just there hanging out. If I invite someone over to my house, obviously I am the host and do my best to be hospitable. Hosting is meant to be a treat, a gift to your guest(s). Treat a lady you particularly like to a really nice hole-in-the-wall only you know of. The unique experience is your gift to her. You give it because you want to share it with her. If she's all about t…

There's nothing wrong with love letters but some comments are a little over the top, some are just way too much, and making it a public wall post is rather vain and inappropriate. Basically, he comes off a little socially uncalibrated. Oh right and the smiley faces and !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. And writing skills. I suppose every girl has a different level of allowance for all that kind of stuff but speaking as a bi male whose received similar kinds of messages before (though probably not…

Then you learned something new :) Actually I do agree, sort of. It might be the appropriate response for some but not others. Personally, I would bring it up before she has a chance to form a bad opinion about you/it but like I said in another post, it depends on the rapport you have with her.

You were drunk. Make fun of yourself. Make a joke about it. Pretend you're serious about what you said. Apologize about how bad it was. Depends on the girl and your rapport with her.

You are. The quality of the text is the thing in question. Also, 'under the understanding' is saying the same thing twice you only need 'under' in there once. Impression isn't the same thing as understanding. fixed: being properly descriptive and accurate

Never say noob. Ever. Unless it's a joke. Carefully. Reading stories of beginner success gives other beginners the courage to step up over that first, essentially non-existant hump. It's only when the whole subreddit becomes FRs of the same thing that there is a problem.

Because standing up costs you nothing. Add value to the world by giving people what to you is nothing, but to them is more.

I had a tough time sticking through that. His imitation voices and funny faces were getting pretty irritating and he was really killing that joke about being bitter. There's more than just that but yeah his presentation skills could definitely use some work.

Love your attitude dude, and I agree with the sentiment. I'm not afraid to admit anymore that I grew up a bit of a wuss in many things, and I'd gotten too used to some peoples flaky attitudes. I hate these kinds of people for many reasons and I've learned to stay as far away from them as possible. More than just the time they waste, they corrode your own good habits because they stops being worth the extra effort. I'm just preaching the choir, of course.
