Couldn't agree more. I used to do that bullshit where you'd tell the person to shut up or say something demeaning about yourself. Then, I learned better from a friend of mine who would just say a sincere "Thank You" -- this blew my mind. Such a simple thing - I think most people overthink the compliment - just take it Brandon.

Great video, well worth the watch. Never heard of RDS nation before, and this guy was a great speaker - hilarious too.

Came here to same the same thing. OP is a hero for that reason alone. Or a sadist. Damn.

This is an awesome post! Especially the ;) :) :P part. I typically try VERY hard to limit my emoticons so I don't seem like a internet kiddie. I might loosen up a bit.

I compliment my friends all the time. The one person who simply says a sincere "thank you" always seemed the most appreciative. I took this to heart and do the same now when I get complimented. Agree with OP, a simple "thank you" is best.

Can't it just be something simple like "How's your night going?", and then work from there?

They say that public speaking is people's number one fear. Number two is death. That doesn't seem right, does it? That means, for most people, they'd rather be in the casket than next to it giving the eulogy. Something about that just isn't right. Jerry Seinfeld

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
