I was contacted by a scammer trying for some kind of romance scam. In other forums I had someone try to interest me in Bitcoin and another pressure me to sign up for their only fans. I am wary of anyone messaging me on Reddit.

You are being played. Quietly look for a lawyer and make plans to look after yourself. It is virtually guaranteed that she has some kind of plan in place before springing this on you.

Well said. I did not want the divorce and did not want to face an uncertain future. It turned out being good for me. I got to do things I had not done in years and discovered new pursuits. During the divorce proceedings she tried to destroy me financially and i lived on bologna sandwiches for a few weeks at a time here and there. Once everything was done and assets were split I came out okay financially. You can face a few very tough years going through a divorce and come out okay in the end.

Things will get a little weird emotionally and mentally for a while. It will pass. Stay on course, avoid doing anything dumb, and you will be fine.

Good man. You put a plan together and stuck with it and things do get better.

I do not spend a lot of money, I am not cheap, I just do not spend a lot. My motorcycles were bought used. My camera was about $1,000. Interview lawyers and find one you like. Ask for regular billing and updates. Email only with your lawyer and contact your lawyer only when necessary to keep costs down. Communicate with your wife only through email so that everything is in writing or go no contact and communicate through your lawyer. I set some of my pay aside every month for the lawyer. Ratchet…

Married over twenty years and she had me served ten years ago, divorced since 2018. You may be a lot better off divorced. I am a minimalist. I went from a house to an apartment style condo. Less furniture, less clutter, less expenses. I have a couple of motorcycles and when I want to hit the road I lock my place and go. I took up photography and have a better life. When married I could not get her to stop spending money. The house was borderline hoarder with new stuff she would buy and ignore. N…

Through the early stages of a divorce (and a bit longer) you will find yourself doing some things that may not make sense. Don’t dwell on it.

Don’t bother trying to save your marriage as this has likely been planned out for months. You are being set up and you need to play defence. Be careful in what you do and say. She has had her mind made up for a long time and you will find out she is not the person you think she is. She is not avoidant, she is screwing you over.

My wife was partner in a firm. She had me served and tried to hide assets. My lawyer got a forensic accountant and I got alimony as well as a settlement. Do not play nice.

Yep. Clothes were one of her biggest purchases. When she bought stuff for the house her buying did not make sense. She bought furniture that was too big to fit and too much of it. She would buy stuff that would sit unopened for months. She was not always like this, it developed over time. Single life is glorious. I only buy what I need. I cut the Christmas buying down significantly. Every so often I do a sweep of my place and get rid of stuff I have not used or do not need. Without the ridiculou…

If you want to go to therapy go for yourself. Before my marriage hit the rocks my wife suggested therapy. I said I was open to it and suggested we find a therapist we were both comfortable with. She said she was not going because there was nothing wrong with her, I was the problem. That one blindsided me. She was working on a divorce and wanted to start laying groundwork to be rid of me. Beware. Go to therapy if you think it will help you. I went years later to deal with some other issues. None …

“I had it set up where she wouldn’t have to work ever again, and now I’m childless, I’m very comfortable financially. Still would rather have a family, but you play the hand you’re dealt.” - You could almost be me. I am financially comfortable with no family. I always think things could be worse.

It does in time. You will likely be surprised how much ahead you are monthly without her. My finances greatly improved after my divorce.

You will probably find out how much money you really have after the divorce. My ex spent a lot of money, I found I kept more of my money after the divorce.

Buy used. Lots of people buy a bike then do not ride it. There are a lot of used bikes in excellent condition. Another reason to buy used is that everyone drops a bike. You will feel better dropping a used one. For bike gear go to a liquidator. I bought boots, gloves, etc. from one. My helmet was from Canadian Tire. After twenty years of marriage I was divorced in 2018. I now have three bikes, all used. Insurance is cheap and I like to ride. Take a camera, you might want to record your adventure…

Clarity and peace may never happen. This is a confusing time. Concentrate on yourself and with time you will likely see this in a whole new light. Right now you are at a low point and really overthinking this.

Find a hobby and make it your own thing. I got a motorcycle and took up photography. I did something new, learned a few things, and really enjoy myself. Get out of your comfort zone.

A few years ago my wife has me served. Anyone she knew who asked about me she lied about the situation. She would make up stuff rather than tell people we were getting divorced. People were a little shocked when I told them about the divorce action as she said something else entirely. I was not going to be complicit in her weird behaviour and freely told anyone that asked that she initiated the proceedings.

Get a lawyer. Find a good lawyer. If she wants to be stupid and not get a lawyer then let her. Think of getting a lawyer as hiring a mercenary. Only talk to your lawyer when necessary, preferably by email to keep costs down. Good luck.

Same with mine. Once I figured out after having me served she was not going to do anything further I got aggressive. I got my lawyer to force things forward and demanded a court date. One the court date became a reality and the date got closer and closer she folded.

Ten years ago my ex decided I was not good enough after twenty years of marriage, thank God we did not have kids. She thought that she would keep everything and I would be entitled to nothing. She did stupid things like have me served and then never advanced the divorce, I had to get court orders to move everything forward. She thought he lawyer was her friend and would spend ninety minutes to two hours a day on the phone with her. I heard her legal bill was over $150K. For some reason she got i…

Agreed. I get what you are saying. I moved to another town during the divorce. After the divorce I would sometimes run across mutual acquaintances and find out she was not divorced, I was just off doing my own thing.

Of course she was lying. Once they decide on a divorce they will come up with anything to justify it.

The bizarre behaviour. She made up her mind after twenty years that she wanted a divorce. All of a sudden I was somehow: Stalking her An alcoholic Having rage issues Multiple affairs Tried to kill her via car accident None of this made any sense to anyone who knew me.

I am so much richer after the divorce. I know how much money there is in which account and I no longer worry about missed or bounced payments.

Mine did close to the same thing. Told people I had a drinking problem (I go weeks between drinks), that I had rage issues, and that I was stalking her. All ludicrous. Then it occurred to me that she was trying to build something against me. Once she tried to clumsily set me up for a domestic violence situation. I moved to another town temporarily and got served. First, do not do anything stupid. Limit contact. Move to another room in the home. Get rid of any alcohol or weapons (store them with …
