The trauma of being falsely accused can stay with you forever. And repairing reputation can be next to impossible. I want you to look at my post history. My advice: Try to move on, revisit this issue when the tide turns 10,20 or however many years from now. Best you can do now is start anew and live life to the fullest. Unfortunately there will always be a problem with people not believing you and rumours spread, so ensure that there’s little chance of word travelling to wherever you go.

In Australia you are meant to combat this through something called the ‘briginshaw standard’ of proof, when the crime is very serious as in this one. This means you are meant to take extra care with evidence and ensure it meets a high standard when the finding will cause a lot of damage to the accused person. Unfortunately it appears as if we aren’t following this rule too closely at the moment
