You can respect people by degrees. Don't know if you're just building a straw man. The poster is saying that people in those lines of work would be much lower on the spectrum of respect not that he is denying their humanity or the baseline respect that comes with that.

I had the help of my family. My brother and aunt helped me through my recovery from surgery. The woman I lived with cheated while I was away recovering. Having a romantic partner is not a guarantee that they'll step up in those situations.

You've got a point. If the group is for equality it can still, as a matter of practicality and urgency, focus on improving the deficiencies of a certain group.
