Hmm, I seriously doubt my extremely "traditional" (close minded) friends and family are telling me to stop letting him "act like a girl" because they're worried about him usurping the throne. But it's an interesting thought that I will consider...

My son's favorite color is purple and he loves to dress up in his sister's Elsa costume. He can get away with it for now because he's 2, but the comments I get from friends and grandparents make me feel awful for what he'll deal with in the future. We're pretty non-conforming in my house in general though (gender and otherwise) so I hope I'll instill a sense of individuality in him enough to proudly dress however he wants forever! Probably not a popular opinion here, but I think this specific is…

I'm a woman who hates special treatment and I can't decide if I'm more angry at your generalization or the fact that it does seem to be true overall.

Could they mean leniency as in suspending sentence until the baby is born or like not sending her somewhere that she'll have to perform physical work or be in danger of assault from other prisoners. .. i dunno, anything like that? I'm just thinking, in the long run she deserves an equal sentence, but if she's having complications right now it's not fair to risk the health of another defenseless child at her expense.

Yeah, well, it's only better for women who like that sort of treatment. Personally I hate being shielded and treated as weak and like a victim, even when it is to my advantage. I'm a grown ass woman, I'll lift my own furniture and buy my own cars and fight my own wars.

The female equivalent of men being canon fodder and are the protecters is that women are weak victims and need to be protected. The male equivalent to the concept of women being shut-shamed is that our culture treats women's sexuality as a commodity which men must chase after (which creates the "macho sex hungry" stereotype). Same basic premise with the judgment of ladies' looks (objectification). These are all feminist issues that, if solved, could also resolve issues men face, but I feel like …

I really don't think she's an exhibitionist at all. She said she let's them see her naked body when she's nursing or running to the bedroom after a shower and stuff. It's not like she's sitting spread eagle in the living room inviting her sons to come see what a real woman looks like haha. I think... actually I know a lot of fathers practice this same amount of nudity around their children, but I agree they probably couldn't get away with talking about it without raising a few more eyebrows. Alt…

I think that was exactly her point. She doesn't feel confident with her body because women are held to this impossible standard of beauty, and she wants to make sure her boys don't adapt that beauty standard for women. Where I think she went wrong was not realizing it's not necessarily men that push for this standard. I think in general men notice the silhouette of a woman, whereas it's women who notice lumps and marks and imperfections. I'm not positive, but I think women are more insecure in t…

This is a pregnancy handbook, in which case there's always at least one mother, but the other person isn't necessarily a father (or in the case of surrogacy it would be the mother and the "partner" would be two fathers). I think using "dad" was leaving out a teeeeeeny tiny percentage of the population, but heck, using "partner" is leaving out a percentage of the population as well (in the case of single mothers). Anyway, regardless, I don't see what's so upsetting about this really.

I want to be really mad that only the boy has been charged so far, but I'm trying really hard to tell myself that his parents are decent people who don't want to ruin the girl's life too out of spite and revenge. The fuck if I wouldn't be threatening it though.

Coming from a completely selfish perspective, this shit is why I'd REALLY like to see some male contraceptives. Not only because it's unfair for you guys to not have a choice, but.... they want to melt hormones into my vagina? How much freaking longer until Vasalgel is put again?

Hey I'm a liberal non-feminist! But I'm also married. Sorry. That has me wondering now - are most folks around here conservative? Never thought the day would come when I would identify with them.

I've literally never seen men and women's toilets not side by side, and I don't know about difference in decor, but I can tell you our lady bathrooms are usually disgusto. FUCKING STOP THE SQUATTING LADIES, damn!

Wait someone else mentioned gay marriage.... isn't the whole point of fighting for equal marriage rights because there's a ton of benefits with marriage? Insurance reasons? Tax benefits? Medical visitation and making decisions?

I wouldn't say I talk about it often , but if the opportunity arises I come to the defense of men's rights if it's appropriate. It can really get uncomfortable and I'm sure people have thought I'm weird, but maybe it planted a seed in their mind or maybe someone else heard and knew I'm someone he could talk to if he needed.

This is actually disgusting. This is why I support men's rights. I know it's not popular around here, but I support feminism too, but it's just not addressing the issues my son is going to face, it's just not. And god forbid he's as important to me as my daughters.

Does the same go for the other Men's Rights forums though? I agree that there's mostly good, civil discussion here, but I've never visited any other sites. I have seen very misogynistic quotes from A Voice For Men maybe? But are those the majority there or just straggler posts like you occasionally see here?

I saw one feminist blogger noted that Rodger claimed if one of those sorority girls had slept with him then he never would have gone through with his plan... If she and all the other radfems actually believe that one pity fuck would placate this crazy person and that misogyny was the reason he went on a murder spree, they're completely delusional.

I also consider myself a "feminist who isn't a giant butt fuck and also believes in the men's rights movement because that's equality and equality is important", and said so to one of my more "spirited" feminist friends and... she blocked me. I agree with your sentiment that it's generally more positive here.

My company gives no paid maternity or paternity leave, but both sexes get equal unpaid time under FMLA. Women do get up to 8 weeks medical time after giving birth. The excuse I can come up with for women getting more leave after childbirth is that it does take the body time to recover and encourages breastfeeding (although 30 days is still practically nothing). I'm a huge fan of having "parental leave" for both parents to use as they see fit though. If the mom is breastfeeding, then she is physi…

Funny thing. I posted this on my facebook yesterday and it led to someone posting a video of a circumcision and everyone was so sad that their own sons had gone through that. But it never occurred to them that the procedure doesn't have to be done. One person suggested if she knew then what she knows now, she might reconsider, but someone quickly replied that if you don't do it then bacteria and germs grow... It makes me so sad for baby boys. Most parents just aren't informed about what goes on …

It sounds like the only problem the mother has is with your current girlfriend. I can tell you as a mother, I was especially protective of my first child. Territorial almost. That is what your baby's mom is feeling. She doesn't have any sort of relationship with your girlfriend and it isn't enough for her to trust your judgment of this woman. It is completely unacceptable for the mother to keep you from your child, but I can tell you she is doing what she thinks is best for her child. I can bet …

That made me physically ill to read. I know there is minimal (or none?) anesthesia used in routine circumcision... does that mean they did this whole 3 hour procedure and couldn't stop to knock this poor baby out before proceeding to REMOVE A SIGNIFICANT PART OF HIS BODY? Jesus. I just... god.
