It never was. By joining up you’re just continuing the same cycle of men being used as shields without recieving any value in return for their sacrifices. Personally, I see it coming down to the uprising of the modern satirical comedy. Namely, "All in the Family". In the same way that Archie Bunker taught the nation that racism is not only something we need to learn to ignore and/or laugh at, it also taught the world that a father, or man with authority, expressing his opinion is something to laugh at.
