I think horse girl signals "high maintenance girl in low maintenance coat" because technically she's outdoors with this large animal and all kinds of dirt, hay, splinters, and smells, and she likes it, but at the same time, she probably has money, confidence, standards, discipline, and class. When she's on a horse, she's literally above you and she's used to being at that stature. She knows she's capable of taking care of an entire living thing, how could she possibly be impressed by a boy who c…

Back in the day there was an April Fools story about a female great white becoming very friendly with a fisherman that saved her (which I only found out was an April Fools article when I looked it up just now) but at the time it made me wonder if it were really possible that sharks with their cold dead fish eyes could really recognize individuals and have gratitude. Turns out it's very possible: https://www.vox.com/2015/7/6/8900069/shark-week-2015

I guess it depends on what you're experiencing day-to-day. I'm in the asian community, so I see more news about racist attacks and more comments about karens harassing asians or calling the cops on blacks.

As a woman of color, I see calling racist white women karen as comparable to calling a pickme a pickme. Especially after nearly half of white women helped vote in the pussy grabber in 2016. I do see internet trolls calling critics karens to get a rise out of them, but internet trolls are like that with everything. Other than that, it's been consistently a label for racists. I have not seen a headline calling a black, asian, or indigenous woman a karen. The reason that karens get a special label …

He proposed in elementary school. Walked me to my locker in high school. Helped me study for Chem ostensibly to return the favor for my mom helping his dad find work. Made 2 attempts to convince me to go to prom with him. After college, dropped hints about wanting to try my cooking (he said it in a weird way that rubbed me the wrong way but I don't remember exactly what it was) or work together in a private practice (ahem family practice). I got tired of him doing everything to position himself …

"HVM will understand" this is true. I remember reading an article by a man for men on not being a creep that was basically trying to drill into his readers' heads that they need to understand the woman is taking a risk and if a man wants to date her, he needs to anticipate her safety concerns and put her at ease (e.g. don't offer to get water for her because that's what a creep would do to slip something into her drink).

I think someone else mentioned that some of the pics were for wedding makeup. Also, some women like makeup and some don't. Just like how different women favor different styles of dress. To say that she's covering her face up because she doesn't realize she's naturally beautiful is to assume she must be doing it to please someone else. Maybe she is, but let's not assume that, there are already men making those kinds of assumptions and we are better than that.

It's not the video guy's voice or it is? I get that TikTok does that lipsync thing but when it's not a super meme-y vid and more of a skit, it just seems like ripping off. Not that I care about Rahul, he clearly has issues from how he keeps casting himself as a super perfect boyfriend in a way that is oddly reminiscent of virtue signalers, but it's weird to me that someone would lipsync an entire skit so closely and even use the same head towel schtick to represent the girlfriend.

Isn't this Rahul? I mean different guy but that's Rahul's schtick and probably his voice too.

I may be am optimist but this is what I think: Honestly, if a guy actually follows this, like if he actually starts cleaning up his shit, cooks, works out, and levels up his friendships, and actually keeps that up, it's going to turn things around for him by a lot. And when he sees how well it works, sure, some guys might feel like, "ugh it sucks that we have to perform all this to get respect," but some guys might realize, "all this time I spent feeling sorry for myself with my old friends when…

The Bible often makes exceptions because it's not really about the rules but about living in faith and striving to honor the values God has at heart. Religious teachers have a habit of emphasizing the rules that make them look good / that are easy for them to follow, and de-emphasizing the virtues and principles and priorities that God actually values.

I would say so? It doesn't depict rape but it does show the Nice Guys who take home Fake Drunk Cassie and what they try to do to her, and it was disturbing to watch, although it was filmed in a way that made it look awkward and gross and unsettling instead of how most movies sexualize assault.

I feel like a far better ending would have been her dumping the guy, showing up to the wedding blasting that video to everyone, I have to categorically disagree. If she did that, it would be an insult to Nina to be used as just another tool for Cassie's revenge, and it would also drag Nina's family into it. Yes, the only party that should be ashamed are the groom and the bystanders but imagine if it went viral and Nina's mom was going about her business when suddenly her feeds and the news she f…

I disagree, I think Emerald Fennell intentionally went for the justice limp dick, because the whole point is that nobody wins, because predatory men and enabling culture forces a situation where you can't win. After watching Taken too many times, I started to see the revenge fantasy genre for the lie it really is. The male revenge fantasy is for weak Joe Schmo's to live vicariously through hyper masculine antiheroes. The female revenge fantasy is just useless escapism with an individualistic mes…

I would start with her book. And, I won't say that you have to do this but the way her system works, you're supposed to start with your home, and with your clothes, because the first step is learning to listen for the spark or thrill and for most people, it's easiest to recognize with your clothes. Also, she believes it's important to do this in daylight, and to be mindful without distractions, which I think she's onto something, especially because sometimes it's hard to recognize the difference…

It was so creepy yow he squeezed past that one couple into their house. Also, that he sometimes does "natural fertilization," he said half the time but looking at him, I doubt it 🙄 I'm horrified that women are letting him do this to them at all. OK, but just to be clear, that's not the FDS way. It's considered a waste of a HVW's time and energy to try to "teach LVM a lesson". I can concede that an argument could be made for sometimes it being difficult to leave without a final Take That, or I've heard of women using cheating to get herself dumped (so that instead of him coming after her when she tries to leave, he leaves her willingly). Of course the most important thing is to do what you gotta do to get yourself outta there. But in ter…

This actually makes sense to me. In 2019 I started noticing that I could tell from a gut feeling what was going to happen with a date. I agree that she's on that cusp. Like she still thinks it's technically possible for a man to change for a woman, but I think with "if it's not you, it's not you" she's trying to say that there's no point in trying and making an effort to be The One.

The caption does kind of recolor it as satire, for me, but it's so poorly executed and, well, good satire leaves you feeling like, "YEEES CALLED OUT, IT NEEDED TO BE SAID," and this left me feeling like, "… ok but was this necessary? what's the message here?" Like if he added a line e.g. "meanwhile, I [insert description of embarrassing and possibly hypocritical behavior]," it might have been salvaged by sharpening the focus on calling out self-hating racist assholes.

He's LV. First, he makes it clear in that first paragraph that he's not willing to act on his self awareness. Second, people always act how they think other people behave. For him to say that most men are unwilling to change, even though what he says is true, the fact that he believes that means there's a strong chance that he uses that to excuse himself from being better.

I think if a guy is currently active on social media, he should change his status (fb) or casually mention as appropriate. He doesn't have to go out of his way to show me off but he should clearly refer to me as his girlfriend. None of that "This guy! / This girl!" vague nonsense where people manage to simultaneously show off their relationships and be vague about whether it's platonic or romantic. If he's not active on social media, then that's also good, maybe better.

You need to question your ideas about what makes someone worthy of a relationship, and your ideas about what being in a relationship says about someone. Society feeds us a lot of invalid theories about relationships, and when we try to twist the observed facts to fit those theories, it messes us up.

I think people on dating apps in general talk more about what they want, but for different reasons. There was an earlier example someone posted where a woman on Tinder had all her rules listed on her profile. I think women are trying to avoid the people they don't want to date, while men are hoping that the app will spit up a list of women who meet their dream specifications. That said, I do want to say that there are good ones out there, however rare they may be. When my dad's friend started da…

Even if I did appreciate luxury, I have a MVM friend that's the kind of rich that ACTUALLY DOES get gold diggers trying to latch on. Watch or belt? LMAO, my boy here has several luxury cars in multiple countries and a personal assistant that's on call 24/7, and you don't see me chasing him.

It seems like he was originally "seemingly nice" so what I'm wondering is if your sister really knows that he's more respectful now or if he's taking an interest in your sister and trying to preempt her finding out from you that he was an asshole. That whole "Idk why but your sister seems to hate me" line sounds like he's setting up for an "ohh, I didn't know she thought I said that about her, I never said that, someone must have made it up"

I cleaned up after a party once, but the only opinion I cared about was the birthday girl's mom's. I didn't see anybody else (cough, dad) around to help. I don't remember any straight guys there worth any of my time during the party, never mind after 😂

Ugh. When I was 12, I attended a summer program at a nearby university, and during one lunch, what looked like a team of student athletes jogged past my cousin and me. They called out, "HOW OLD ARE YOU?" I wasn't going to respond but my cousin rounded up our ages to "THIRTEEN!" so I bellowed, "TWELVE." Then they hollered back as they , "YOU'RE TOO YOUNG FOR US" as they left. I was so steamed, I ranted on Xanga about how it was no duh that we were too young and how could college guys possibly be …

I know you're saying that he looks good on paper, but even a LVM fronting as a HVM needs to temporarily act high value to even get the quotation mark "HVM". You describe this guy as refusing to empathize with anyone that he's not professionally required to be nice to, that sounds like he's a manchild more than 50% of the time.

That's not a HVM, that's a wealthy, educated LVM. Being rich isn't in itself a HV trait, it's an indicator that someone might be financially responsible and conscientious which tends to run with high value people. But look at Trump—if his family hadn't been crazy rich to begin with (and if he hadn't had income from The Apprentice to cover his losses), he'd be bankrupt. And he's an entitled dickhead with no integrity.

I saw this post from a group I'm in: a girl literally bought a bunch of Pokemon toys and turned them into a Christmas bouquet for her bf. It was really cute but she didn't say anything about how he treats her so I have unspoken questions… I don't want to assume, because loads of people like the cutesier Pokemon without playing the actual game a lot, but the question of whether he puts this same effort hangs in the air. Also reminded me of one time I learned about this tradition from my parents' …

In general, a woman would have to be remarkably stupid to level false accusations because victims get a lot of blowback, speculation about what they were wearing, bullying from the rapist's friends/fans, etc.

Early last year, a date took me to a bar (for a concert), and while we were waiting for the concert to start, I felt something strike my bum. I'm not totally sure if it were on purpose or not because there WAS a large crowd milling around but no one said sorry or excuse me. It took me a second to react and think to look around, and I didn't see anyone look back at me, so I'll never know.

Some of us just have that energy. Guys throwing themselves at me have been few and far between but that doesn't mean they didn't want to, they were scared. I'm not just saying that to twist the facts to suit the theory, either. One man told me that if it weren't for our mutual friend (she kept setting us up with the good ol' invite-and-ditch maneuver), he never would've dared to ask me out, because I gave off really strong rejection vibes.

He wasn't always that sassy, though. Like one time when I was really tired studying, he asked me to follow him (by whining, taking a step and then looking back over his shoulder). I said, where do you want to go? And then he led me to my bed, sat, and pointed (with his nose). I don't know if your dog will be like this, but mine used a lot of meaningful eye contact and nose-pointing to talk to me and let me know what he wanted, so that might be something to keep in mind. I've never had another do…

It's not just the protection. A fair number of dogs have a great instinct for people and will tell you things about their mental state that you might not realize yourself. I had a handsome white shepherd that kept trying to, ah, forcibly evict a housemate who turned out to be a real asshole. -edit- pets, not just dogs

Reminded me of this tumblr post where the users discussed how it was a manipulative tactic in different ways, and how they've addressed it. Whether he's wallowing or being sarcastic, he's trying to shift the focus off of his responsibility for himself and making it a you problem. One user shocked her ex by telling him that yes, he was being a bad boyfriend (and implied that he shaped up, but she broke up with him later over something else, so feel free to skip straight to the breakup instead). This is super cool. LVM use childhood as an excuse for bad behavior, HVM use it as inspiration to fight for a better future.

I feel kind of sad about things not working out with HVM but I think instead of saying that it's a pity, the mindset should be that we should be surrounding ourselves with HV people, men and women, so that HVM are just normal to us and not a rare commodity.

Yes. With a past situationship, towards the end I was constantly on edge and it's only now I recognize that it was my body telling me he was a dumb, unattractive POS. I was in an elevated state, always a step away from spiraling into an anxiety, sometimes even unable to tolerate my parents talking to me, for over a year until I met my ex. With my ex, I had some initial anxiety after our first date, but after talking to him a bit longer, it completely resolved, almost as if I'd never met the toxi…

One time, I suddenly got hit with that feeling that I was going to have diarrhea on my way to a date. I pulled into a mall parking lot, found a parking spot, half-ran, half-hobbled into the building, and relieved myself in one of the restrooms on a toilet. I don't know what this dude is on, but he wasn't trying.

Adding to this, it's not like you're on a date with a committed relationship, so "friend" isn't really a lie. I think we've all been introduced to a "friend" at one point or another that was actually a date that hadn't gone official yet, it's really the polite way to go.
