It isn’t an option unless paying with a debit card (checking account). Credit card purchases don’t require one at restaurants or most anywhere else. I couldn’t tell you the pin for any of my credit cards - sincerely don’t know them. I’ll occasionally get a text from Amex or Chase asking if it’s me buying whatever - but that’s the extent of first in line fraud protection. Gotcha - wasn’t sure how verification worked over there. That must have been the issue. I don’t even know my credit card PIN numbers - only debit cards. When I most recently returned home after a couple weeks I found myself grabbing my phone when I was ready to pay my tab and confusing the waitstaff. Was in the UK and France in November and didn’t run into this - is a pin still required if using your phone because I’m pretty sure I mostly used that but feel like I used my card taking out relatives in Paris but not sure.
