MTV comes up with a set of "rules" for white men. How in the name of sanity is this not both racist and sexist? I thought treating all people of the same race or the same sex the same way was the very definition of stereotyping. They have become what they profess to hate. And don't even see the irony of it. Thanks for the chuckles, MTV.

Does arresting people for not wearing clothes have a definite purpose? I'm not interested in arguing for or against the law. You're talking as if wearing clothes was the default. Around these parts it is. Is it different where you live?

I don't think I implied that there was anything wrong with it, just that there's a difference between breastfeeding and plain ol' exposure. One has a definite purpose, one doesn't.

The reason for exposing oneself does not negate the fact that you're exposing yourself. Just how much exposure is going on? There's a kid's face in front of most (if not all) of the boob - that's how it works. I've seen it, and I don't find it to be titillating (heh) in the least. Offspring suckling on mother - it's why we're called mammals after all. I think it's a stretch to equate a breastfeeding woman with a topless woman. Maybe that's just me, maybe there are men who are more scared of bare…

No different than a man exposing his dick for any reason. I'd disagree strongly with this - a man exposing his dick isn't feeding anyone with it. If a woman were walking around with her tits exposed for no reason (or maybe she likes squirting random strangers with her breast milk), then that would be indecent. But sharing nutrition with her offspring is one of the most natural things in the world. I have to side with the pro-breastfeeders here.

I'm not aware of a school dress code (which almost invariably differs between the sexes) ever being ruled as discriminatory. Adding to the issue is the fact that if you're a minor you don't really have any rights (at least not along these lines) as those rights would be vested with the parents. And in school the school itself is considered in loco parentis, so no joy there. And if I were going to scream discrimination in high school it would have been for unisex showers ;)

How much of that money is spent on the standard Secret Service protection she requires as a relative to the head-of-state? Probably about twice as much as it would have cost if she'd taken the same accommodations as her husband. But for some reason she decided that Woudn't Do. And that decision has cost the tax payers a crap load of money.

Just who or what is she obligated to consider a higher priority than herself? The taxpayers whose money she's spending. Like when she decides to take a separate jet to Hawaii, or to Martha's Vineyard. Spending ten million dollars of the public's cash seems like an awfully expensive way to make sure she's top priority. Perhaps she could scale it down a little, particularly given the current state of the economy.

Usage of the word "gender" in that sense hasn't been common until the mid-20th century. Nonetheless, accepting that definition bolsters my argument - "gender discrimination" becomes "behavior discrimination", and that's not at issue here.

Put simply, women (on average) make less money than men because they make different choices (about careers, about family, about education, etc) than men do. It's not a conspiracy, it's not discrimination, it's a matter of free will.

Interesting thing about that "Mommy Survivor" scenario - nobody really gets voted off the island, do they? Mommy can decide to skip the housekeeping one or two or three days out of the week, and guess what? She still gets to be mommy next week. It's not like she's going to be called on the carpet and threatened with losing her position. Or worry that some younger mommy (maybe a niece of the VP?) is going to come along and try to steal her job. Or that an irate child will decide to switch vendors…

And it wasn't all that long ago that such a thing was considered perfectly natural. My grandmother was born from a German immigrant mother, when the mother's family members came to visit they wanted to know why Lottie (my grandmother, then all of sixteen) wasn't already married and having kids. From their point of view she was an old maid. The idea that 18 years of age is the demarcation of adulthood is a relatively novel concept.

Once they hit menopause they're pretty much worthless as far as the Great Genetic March is concerned - but a man can keep passing on his genes well into his dotage. Which probably explains a lot of things...
