In my opinion the benefit comes from a happier work force in the long term. It isn't a short term benefit that can be calculated like an hourly pay rate. I guess that's the argument against it. At some point though they are choosing it. At some point they have had the ability to do something different and positive but didn't. That goes for all of us in all of our maladaptive behaviors. But you're right, they aren't to be hated for it, just like we aren't to be hated for our own shortcomings. Doesn't mean they shouldn't be avoided though.
