Would primary residence be at risk in this scenario? If the house increased in value since you got married, you’ll likely have to pay her half the equity. If you cannot afford this, then yes, the house is at risk. Get an attorney. | /r/Divorce_Men | 26/01/25 03:12 PM
Financial ruin (divorce) vs. Wasted life (stay)Financial ruin is temporary. Misery will only get worse the longer you stay in the marriage. I’m in a similar situation, at the tail end of the process. The divorce and move obliterated my savings. I’ve done the budget and I will struggle financially for a few years, then it’ll get a little better for a few more years, then my six figure income is all mine and I can build again. | /r/Divorce_Men | 07/09/24 02:22 PM
Lease vs Finance car while divorcingDepends on the state, maybe. In my state child support is formulaic based on gross income but the standard of alimony begins with showing that one spouse needs it and the other spouse can afford it. Car payments and living expenses are absolutely factored into that determination. | /r/Divorce_Men | 31/08/24 11:01 AM
My advice to those starting down this path...Most of this is consistent with advice I received from multiple attorneys. This is absolutely reflective of the life that a divorcing person needs to be prepared for. | /r/Divorce_Men | 31/08/24 10:58 AM

Another thing I won’t miss from the ex….Man, every one around town knows my house because of the two giant skeletons in our front yard. They’re too big to break down and put in the basement because of all the other Halloween and Christmas decorations, so they’re left up year-round and in November I have to get on a latter and put Santa hats and scarves on them. | /r/Divorce_Men | 16/08/24 08:55 PM
