The change in rates were affected disproportionately less than females, though. My point is: the issue that’s causing female suicides could explain the lack of decrease in male suicides. Addressing that problem could be beneficial for both sexes. I’d need more data to prove my hypothesis, though. This is solely conjecture

They’d be counterproductive if the increase in male suicide was disproportionate with female suicide. Male’s have a higher suicide incidence because of societal values and an asymmetrical access to resources. If both increase, it means that it was a situation that affects both sexes, which means it’s likely to be a temporal situation, dependent on covid.

I agree. Both are pressing problems and neither should be ignored.

Oh, the suicide rates suck and are indicative of a social/mental health problem that affects predominantly men, I have no questions on that. But the halt in the decrease of suicide rates and, even worse, their increase, speaks volumes that these mental issues are more prevalent than in previous years and that they affect men more. An increase in suicide rates indicates that there’s something wrong that can be adressed, and understanding that females were more affected from this new problem could…

Wait what? I’m sorry, but I have to give it to her. She isn’t saying that female suicide is more important or that male suicide is irrelevant. She’s just stating facts: that the increase in suicide is bigger among females than among males. She isn’t saying that there’s more suicide in females than in males. Overall suicide rate changed from 32.3 to 33.8 suicides per 100,000. That’s a change of 4.64% with a delta of 1.5 suicides per 100,000. Male’s suicide rate went from 22.9 to 22.9 per 100,000.…

An AI is by mere definition a computer program. The difference is that AI is meant to mimic biological intelligence, whether it be by mimicking neurons (artificial neural networks), a set of rules that an expert would follow which are defined with diffuse logic (expert systems), algorithms based on how animals behave (anthill algorithms) or how evolution behaves (genetic algorithms). Among others AI tends to adapt, not learn, based on previous data, but even then, it is NOT the definition of AI.

Exactly. I live in Mexico, where the views on rape are just what this thread has been or worse, and it’s vocalized as such. It’s ridiculous that people think that just because someone can physically say “I consent” is enough. Sexual violence is rampant, and people taking sides on the things that affect both sexes is being detrimental to the problem. While the nuances should be expressed by either side and understood by the other, rape as a whole should be a people problem, not a gender problem

I don’t think a black-out drunk person can consent... Other than that, I agree completely. Edit: Jesus Christ, you people are dense. No, I don’t give a fuck if you’re a man or a woman, it’s still not consent, and you can’t consent when you’re not in your five senses just like a kid can’t consent. Date rape drugged people (MEN too, ffs) aren’t completely unconscious always, but that doesn’t mean they can consent. I (a man) was a victim of sexual assault because of this, and it doesn’t mean I supp…

While I disagree on the terminology, I completely share your ideals. Thanks for sharing your opinion, even in a sub where it’s frowned upon

This was undeniably true a feminist wave ago, and I hope it comes to that again, but fourth-wave feminism is a little iffy on various subjects, which make it debatable again. When a word is usually misconstrued many times, it’s because its definition is evolving in its use, which leads me to believe that egalitarianism is a better, clearer word for this.

You couldn't be more dense if you tried. You are so dense that you'd sink in a vat of mercury. You are so dense that you could be used to block radiation. You are so dense that you absorb the light around you. You are so dense that you are a few kg away from going supernova. I hope you get the point... Is what I'd say if I could go through so many layers of compressed mass

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
