It is frustrating and I've dealt with that myself. I used to joke around and make some offhand comment, but then realized that for a lot of women, it is a serious thing. In your situation, it sounds like that girl and her friends were just being nosey and wanted to get the scoop on you before meeting up. I feel like that's an invasion of privacy and it seems more about gossip than it is about safety. It also really kills the potential for chemistry when first meeting someone because they've stud…

That is honestly something I have personally been struggling with... My kid's mom wants nothing to do with me — even if I'm reaching out to sort out an issue with the archaic child support payment website. She just wants me to shut up and pay.

I was thinking this as well. Some of these guys will experience alienation themselves and maybe only then will they actually care for others.

Honestly, they should just look at the area median income for each major metro area or census tract, determine a rough estimate of what the monthly obligation is to raise a child and then split that either 50/50 or 60/40. For instance, I've seen online that it costs roughly $1,500 per month to raise a child (no idea how that was calculated), so if that's what we decide, then the parents split that amount even Steven or some other kind of split. Personally, I'm in a situation where I willingly al…

That was kind of my impression too... But more of the creepy male feminists who try to project just a little too hard to seem woke/progressive when in realty, they're probably just creepy dudes.

Not so much "rights" but I have been on many solo cross-country road trips in the last five years and never worry about walking in the woods alone or stopping in some random little mountain town and sleeping in my vehicle in a rest area or truck stop. I have only encountered a few solo women travelers on my trips and in the cases when they're youngish (under 35) and attractive, they are literally swarmed by men all vying for her attention and to monopolize her time. I could see it being uncomfor…

There was a thread last week of a woman who was complaining that she was reported by a colleague to their manager for not wearing a bra... And she was/is a server. There's a chance she's leaning over to put plates on the table and giving a free look to patrons. It's one thing if she's in a tech office where there's a lax dress code and you're surrounded by other adults all day... But when you're waiting tables, you're going to be around children and older folks. It's just not appropriate.

It was really surprising to see how many people were openly hostile towards the theme/idea of fathers rights... Especially in a major subreddit for dads. It seems like virtue signaling... At least that's all I can assume because I have no idea how or why fathers would not be supportive of seeing an overhaul of the dysfunctional and unnecessarily cumbersome and cruel family court system.

That's my read on it. But it seems like there was a lot more going on here... either with her mental state or the home environment. But there definitely seems to be a trend that when a woman has to pay alimony or child support or loses primary custody of their child, they see it as a gross injustice and feel like they have been targeted. As where this happens to men every day and we are expected to just cope and deal with it. When the shoe is on the other foot, women don't even know how to proce…

Yep. Men become despondent and harm themselves after losing everything and being disenfranchised/devalued/discarded. But women are bad at sharing and have an innate sense of entitlement, so when they lose everything or are stripped of their power or rights, they lash out and harm others.
/r/MensRights29/08/23 05:05 PM

Women are bad at sharing. When it comes to a man's resources, they're viewed as being for the greater good and a shared pool of funds, but when women are ordered to pay child support or lose primary custody of the children, it's like the end of the world — they feel as if they have been targeted or there has been a gross injustice. But every day, men lose their children for no good reason and are ordered to pay huge sums in child support and are expected to just deal with it.

It really is wild... In order for a court to not only award primary custody to a father, but order that the child be immediately returned to the father in another state means that there was something up with the mom. Courts will say that they pick the parent who is most able to provide a safe, secure and stable home environment to a child, but we all know that in most cases, they just immediately defer to the mother since mothers usually almost always gatekeep the kids' father, micromanage, and …

Crazy how in the story everyone is just like, "What a tragic event" instead of, "She was an evil person." In the cases where a father has been a family annihilator, there is never any hesitation to call him evil or narcissistic or anything like that. But yet here, we see a complete avoidance of that.

The bad-mouthing bitter baby momma is such a common trope. It's far more common than I realized. Virtually any divorced woman is scornful to her ex-husband for virtually everything: they're annoyed that he plays video games, annoyed that he hangs out with his friends, annoyed that they're not getting enough attention, annoyed that he spends his own money on his hobbies... It's impossible to please these women. And after they hit 40 and have one or two kids, their value in the eyes of a high-earn…

Yes, it's brutal. I no longer have the ability to save and get out of debt. I was very close to getting out of credit card debt and now each month, it's like I add another $800 to the pile. Yet my kid's mom acts like she needs the money even though she makes $150,000 and has so far gotten the child tax credit every year.

My attitude when I first started dating single parents was, "Well, they've been through some shit and they're probably mellowed out and just want some peace. That's what I want." But then the reality is again, just non-stop complaining and resentment. I fucking hate working as much as I do and absolutely hated the job I had when I was dating this person over the winter. I was working 9-10 hour days most days and was micro-managed and had to really suffer to earn my salary. I think it's that way …

Have you ever had to file a lawsuit like this before? How does that usually go? I would assume/imagine that people would want to settle, but I also have no idea. This case seems particularly egregious, but I also wonder what the odds are of people actually being punished/penalized for this type of stuff.

Living with clinical depression and having no one in your life who cares. Imagine fighting a battle with your own mind day-in and day-out while trying to keep your career and everything else in your life together. It's exhausting. Even worse is that when it's a man dealing with it, you are seen as weak or incompetent if you talk about it or reveal that you are struggling. Women have support networks and friends who will go far lengths to make one another feel better. Most men don't have the same…

I've struggled with clinical depression my entire adult life and I'm a firm believer that environment and lifestyle play such a big role in how well someone deals with their depression. When you're struggling to get by, aren't sleeping well, aren't eating well, feel like you could slip through the cracks at any moment, no one wants anything to do with you. But when you suddenly pull yourself up by the bootstraps, have a few small victories, get out of your shitty environment and somewhere where …

It wasn't always like that, but I tend to agree... I think very type-A, aggressive, career-focused women can and will quickly turn on you when you're no longer romantically attached. The relationship becomes purely transactional and they will look for any and every opportunity to get an advantage over you or to be in a position of dominance over you.

Very old piece, but also illustrative of how long the "culture war" bullshit and toxic feminism has dominated mainstream media. It's safe to say that the type of thinking in this article has been the norm and accepted standard for nearly ten years now.

She's in the medical field and very specific niche/expertise. We're also both approaching 40 and getting up to our highest earning potential. I'm pretty sure I'm at or very close to the very top of my earning potential — I work in a dying industry/field and historically, wages were always very low compared to other fields.

I don't understand why your comment/idea is so difficult for people to understand. It really wouldn't be that difficult. We have algorithms that companies use to purchase tens of thousands of homes every quarter. We somehow think that it's impossible to create a shared checking account/debit card that would be used for essentials and utilities? This is the other problem with the child support discussion in general — when it comes to the father's income and the father's assets, it's all gone thro…

Seriously. Why do people do this? It seems like there are very few places on the internet where you can talk to strangers about child support and not feel judgement over it and I thought maybe this was a "safe" space to do so, but even here there are people who want to grandstand and white knight about how great the system is.

With all due respect... Why are you even in this sub or in this thread then? I'm asking to hear from other fathers in the same situation, not random people who think that the system is a-ok as it is.

And once a woman realizes that she's "entitled" to this money and can use the law/courts to gain it, there is absolutely no way that any woman is going to voluntarily turn it down. It's part of the dehumanization of men — they see it as "free" or "deserved" money to them, not as something that harms and takes away from their kid's father.

In my case, the mother's salary is $60K more than mine. But then you skim $15K off of my salary and add it to hers, suddenly she's now at $165K income and I'm at $75K. How is that fair? It should be like food stamps. If you're making $150K and the father is less than $100K, then you simply make too much money and don't qualify. Or it should just be calculated at a very low amount. It's insane.

One thing that so many don't realize is that child support is calculated in your debt/income ratio if applying for a mortgage. Say you make $100K salary but you're paying $15K-$20K in child support — the bank views your income as only $80K to $85K then. Meanwhile, the mother doesn't have to claim the support as income or pay taxes on it. It's literally free money for them.

It's funny how when it's the government paying to raise a kid, they will claim that it's possible to do so on a few hundred bucks per month and they have built-in guardrails on SNAP cards to prevent people from using those funds on non-essentials. But when it comes to a father's income — the sky is the limit when it comes to the cost of raising a child. And when it's child support, there are no guardrails. It's money that goes straight into a custodial parent's checking account and 100% discreti…

I know this is what a lot of people do. It's so wild to me that the child support system has created an entire economy of under-the-table workers for this exact reason. I was freelancing for a couple of years and earning a pittance in 2018-2020... Roughly $30K per year each year. But now that I'm FT salary again, I've always been told that even if I decided to go back to freelancing, that they would still claim that I'm voluntarily under-employed and set support at my earning potential. My ideal…

In Illinois, they automatically garnish your wages. There's no option to just pay on your own merit. They just assume that you're not going to pay it.

This. I have definitely thought about just selling everything and starting over or changing my name and disappearing. But I want to spend more time with my kid. I do have a path forward if I just be a good boy, pay my child support on time, don't disparage or disrespect my kid's mom and then maybe in a year or so, I could file a motion for 50-50 parenting time, which would either cancel out child support entirely, or cause her to have to pay me a small amount. But that is still a long road and j…

Thanks for the comment, and honestly, stoicism and this subreddit have been helpful. Knowing that literally no one will save me/us feels terrible, but knowing that this is the absolute truth and that so many other people who I have never met and know nothing about have come to this exact same conclusion gives me reassurance that I'm not crazy and that I'm not alone.

The court's vision of the cost of raising a child is an arbitrary number that's solely dependent on the non-custodial parent's income. Meanwhile, there are stats from the US Census and others that say that the cost of raising a child is somewhere in the ballpark of $1,500 per month. Even if that were the case, people earning $100K or more are paying that as their "50%" of the cost of raising their kid.

The one thing I realized was the fact that she gave the guy "30 seconds of sympathy" and basically moved on with her life This has been my exact experience with my daughter's mom. The final few months in my last job were the textbook definition of a hostile work environment. There would have to be a major catalyst to have enough political will to change the family court system. Like, a high profile celebrity or politician would have to commit suicide or something over CS. Instead, culturally, we're just focused on plastic straws and non-gendered bathrooms... I love my kid, but I wish I would have been smarter. It's so funny because as soon as we finalized the court order and signed it, she was suddenly much nicer to me. Must feel good to win. But sounds like your kids' mom may be a classic narcissistic parent. They are never wrong, never admit fault to anything, and just blame-shift and avoid acknowledging any shortcomings or failures. I'm starting to think maybe my kid's mom could be a covert narcissist. She's a good mom but absolutely compassionless. I could get hit by a bus tomorrow and she would f…

It's absolutely designed to be adversarial. And even if you and your ex got along pretty well before hand (as we did/were), once you start getting lawyers involved, the gloves come off and they start lying and defaming you in the court and on record. Seems like the current system works well for states. The only way it will change is if there is enough political will to do so. But what politician is going to want to regulate and change child support? I mean, it is called child support. You must be a heartless ghoul if you think the child support is bad. My daughter's mom makes $150K. I had been giving her $800-$900 per month before she filed a petition for support. I was never thanked for being there and being a part of my daughter's life. The mother always made it seem like I was never contributing enough. She clears $10,000 per month after taxes, deductions, 401k, etc and now is getting 25% of my take home pay on top of that. And she has absolutely zero compassion, zero empathy, zero remorse, and zero shame about it.

I think about all of the big reforms of the 80s and 90s and how they have absolutely failed us: the War on Drugs, "right to work" and at-will employment, mandatory minimum prison sentences, child support, and so on and so on... We live in a failed state.
