Women like this can and will claim rape on men they haven't even slept with. So only sleeping with people you have established trust with won't protect you (also, these are college kids, most aren't going to wait months to ensure they're not boinking a psycho before they get down and dirty).

The onus of that shouldn't be wholly on the mother, that's ridiculous. Parents should raise all of their children to be disgusted by rape and actively work against it's prevalence in society. Facts are that man perform rape more than women on an insane scale, so a bit more pressure should be put into teaching young boys that it is wrong and any authority figure in that boy's life should do so (mothers, fathers, aunts, uncles, guardians).
