I don't think of it so much as a position as a function. Someone has to be in charge, and someone has to be second in command and in charge when the Captain is out. In most marriages, the wife is present for more of the day to day than the husband. Either she's in charge, or she's acting under his authority. I've found that especially with kids, this is important. They need to know that anything Mom says is under Dad's authority as well, no splitting. Plus kids are just more comfortable and happ…

I would add this to the list: Understands that sex is about the relationship and keeping it healthy, not just about either members individual pleasure or momentary desire (or lack thereof).

Agreed. Another way of saying it might be that you can't hit a target you can't see. For those wanting a RP marriage, having a vague goal of getting more sex really isn't going to get you there. You need to know what you want from your wife and your life before you can take effective action to get there. TRP is a means, not an end.

Which is a very good reason NOT to have sex with her before you get married. I know, old fashioned puritanical blah blah blah.... BUT no man can make a rational, objective decision while riding the dopamine high of a new hot sexual relationship. Whom you marry is the biggest single decision you will ever make, do it with a clear head! Also, don't look at how she treats you, that's a new and developing relationship. Look at how she treats her father, and how her mother treats her father. Those ar…

I think the Captain/FO analogy comes from Star Trek, so not really grounded in the real world Navy. Still, it'a useful analogy for us geeks.

Absolutely yes. 25 years in, and I'd do it all over again with the same woman. I'd change some things about myself of course, but that's just called growing up. I've had 25 years of daily+ sex. The quality varies of course, we have our ups and downs, but it really doesn't matter in the end. Sex provides benefits far beyond the physical pleasure of the act, and after so long and so many times it's much more of a perfectly choreographed dance than a wrestling match. Because I married the right gir…

THIS!! Dead on on all points. Especially the last point- Pick the Right Girl! Use your big head not your small one. Do this one thing right, no matter how long it takes, and your whole life will be, if not easy, than soooooo much easier.

Too bad there's not more going on over there, I'd love to talk more about things like this as well. RP parenting is harder than RP marriage in some ways, although the two are so closely interlinked you can't really separate them. I dropped the ball with my older son, he's the stereotypical high IQ computer geek and we just couldn't connect over any activity I could find. With my younger son, the year he turned 16 we spent the spring and summer building our own kayaks, and then in the fall that y…

They make a big deal out of it because it's the only hammer they have to hit us with, bogus though it may be. For the most part they don't understand the difference between socialization and socializing. In every study, even the ones commissioned by the public school systems, home schooled kids were head and shoulders above public school kids academically, and they do better in college. When we lived in CT they tried to pass a law to make all home schooled kids take the standardized tests, not t…

I want them exposed to other cultures/socioeconomic classes/etc Take a walk down to you local school and take a look at the classes. Exact same age kids from the same town, pretty much the same group of kids for their whole k-12 experience. Public School doesn't = diversity. And 'diversity' ain't the magic sauce you've been sold. Home-school them and take them to Mexico during the school year when things are cheap. Let them volunteer during the week at a homeless shelter. That's teaching about o…

Absolutely. Plus you can go to Disney World in September and have sex with your kids teacher, among other great benefits!

Agreed. As a father of an Eagle Scout, I can tell you nothing is better for boys than traditional scouting. And yes, on a national level the scouts have gone downhill, but the way scouting works the local troops still have huge amounts of leeway. The local troop my son came up in pretty much told the national folks to take a hike.

I am, and you definitely think like one anyway. Data! we need more data! Not mocking mind you, it's a good idea, if I could sustain that level of organisation for long enough I'd do it myself.

What are you doing to return to nature? Good question. We hike a lot in the 'daks and Whites. At least one hut hike every year with my son or now my younger daughter. My son and I built our own Kayaks a few years ago- (awesome RP project!! maybe another post..) I still get to use mine some, but with him off the college not so much. Now that I'm a little older and the knees a little less willing, I've taken up sailing much more seriously. We went from a 22' O'day down to a 17' Siren years ago whe…

With you on that. If you're skiing is confined to smaller area's or the bunny hill you probably don't get it, but skiing off piste-the back runs, bowls, glades ect is a whole other world. The exhilaration is incredible. The thing that always struck me is the silence, it's so quiet, (unless there's a lot of people) Just you and the snow and the wind... It can be a very 'commune with nature' experience' although I always though of it as more finally being in my natural element, with the constraint…

Who was it that said 'Preach the Gospel, use words if necessary'? Applies to RP as well. I've had men (and women, to my wife) in churches comment on my marriage, that we seem to be in sync all the time, she doesn't run me down behind my back, we're always touching when we're together, ect. Do it right and it shows. So few marriages today are really great it seems it doesn't take a lot to stand out.

Sadly you're too right. It does depend somewhat on what church you go to I guess. The old hidebound denominations are pretty much solid blue pill territory, the independent non denominational churches less so. Rare as they are, you can spot a RP guy in church if you look. He's the one that can make his wife stop talking and walk out the door with him with a look, not the guy standing by the door holding his wife's purse and looking exasperated!

Because others are bad fathers there's no value in being a good one? Choose not to be one of those other fathers. That's RP. And you're wrong, Values mean everything when you can't feed your kids. Values mean you live your life in such a way that you do what you need to do to feed your kids, not sit around crying because the government isn't handing you enough of other peoples money. I'll admit that much of what I assumed about you may be wrong, but all that stuff you assume about me is just as …

This depends totally on your value system. If who you are is determined by how much is in the bank, how nice a car you drive or how big your house is, how exotic your vacations, then yes, you're totally right. Sadly it's just this attitude that is leading Europeans to breed themselves out of existence. At a guess I'd say I'm a bit older then you, I'm going on 50 and have 5 kids. Would have had more if I could have. And yes, we live a much more modest lifestyle then we otherwise could have. I hav…

Because you're a man, you maintain your frame and forge ahead with what you know to be right, even if others around you disagree. Because you're a Christian you forgive you neighbors failings, have compassion for his weakness, and seek to walk together with him in love. If you keep showing him a different way without giving in to his failings, and he keeps coming back for more, odds are you've got something he needs, but just can't say so. His criticisms of you are most likely his own doubts abo…
