This absolutely spoke to me. As a WOC who previously married to abide by cultural and social norms, but then struggled because neither my ex nor my culture understood my ambition, it has been extremely hard to feel like the misunderstood, odd person out, the “weird one.” But I realized that following social norms made me more miserable than just following my heart and my ambition. I was miserable because that just wasn’t the real me. This message was powerful and reinforced that we must live lif…

I watched it without the sound first and was wondering why the cooking was low value 😂 But really, he had her call his boss for him?! And she STILL did it and then made him and served him food?! How much lazier can you get? She probably put a bib on him too 😳🤦🏻‍♀️

Agree with this! My relationship was also LD in the beginning and also ended in divorce. As you and other commenters have said, LD makes it very difficult to truly get to know the other person, their inner circle, friends, or what they could be potentially hiding.

Preach 🙌 I noticed the red flag early on that my ex would drink too often, but otherwise I had no “valid reason” to break up with him. I tried to dump him twice that first year, but always felt guilted back and overlooked that because “it wasn’t enough of a reason to dump him.” This was reinforced by my family reminding me of what a great guy he was and how lucky I was to have him. Surprise surprise, the drinking later became a much bigger issue in our relationship and the source of constant bic…

Hopefully women supporting women becomes more of the norm than the exception. We already have ridiculous beauty, body image, mommy, etc standards to live with, but too many times women pick at each other and see each other as competition. Too many women willing to fight each other for some pathetic scrote. As a result, men continue to have power, especially in situations where women are fighting for them.

Agreed. I used to think that my ex was my best friend until things went downhill and he used the things he knew about me against me (things I had confided in him). This is why I subscribe to the FDS belief that men can and will use vulnerability and traumas they know about you against you. In speaking to women in my family, they all agree that their husbands are not their best friends. They are partners and companions, but in no way do they expect them to fulfill the different role that friends …

This is a great reminder, thanks, OP. To add onto your last 2 points: don’t leave yourself behind, your hobbies, school, job aspirations, friends. I lost a few friends when I was married, but I never gave up on my career goals. I was in grad school when I found out he was cheating on me. I nearly dropped out because I was so frazzled, but soon realized grad school was for ME and he would have loved to see me fail. Having my career is what got me through my divorce. Ladies, a man can be with you …

I have always asked myself that exact same question. I remember asking a HS acquaintance if she was planning on marriage with her bf after her unplanned pregnancy. She looked at me completely baffled and said “no! That’s a huge commitment!” Oh, because a baby is not? A marriage can end by divorce or annulment. Parenting never fully ends. To them, “at least your kids will always be yours, regardless on if your bf sticks around or not. Your kids will never leave you.” 🤷🏻‍♀️

Unrelated, but reminded me of my ex-husband who gave me a gold necklace at the start of our 6 year relationship. At the end of our marriage (mind you, I wore this necklace to our WEDDING) unbeknownst to me, he took it and gifted it to the girl he was cheating on me with. It wasn’t until I looked her up on FB months later that I confirmed where my missing necklace went. Made me laugh to think he couldn’t even buy her her own jewelry. Sometimes these “men” really ain’t shit! This girl knows it but…

Either divorced, or together but absolutely miserable. Unfortunately, people think together but miserable is better than alone and happy 🤷🏻‍♀️

Men lie about their height on OLD profiles as if it’s not the easiest lie to catch when you meet them in person. Like, where do you account for those 2+ inches of height that you’re missing? 🙄

I remember the feeling when I “regained” the power I thought I had lost (to my ex) and became the primary, most important character of my life. It was an amazing feeling!

THIS. Social media is where they put their happiest, best image, even if it may not be true in real life. But in our emotional state we can easily believe it’s true.

That was my experience too! I found that time passing and having other things to focus on in our lives helps reduce that desire to check on them. Happy for you that you were able to break that habit 😊

I remember when a guy I was dating complained about having to drive to the north side of town to meet me (10 minutes tops) and that I would always pick places convenient to me. Not willing to make that hUgE sAcRiFiCe without letting me know how inconvenient it was for him 🙄 Needless to say it did not last.

“Again this doesn’t mean anything to me” but let me list all the ways in which I’m too good for her. Also, let me judge and label her as low value because she only has an associates degree and doesn’t make the same amount I make. Nowhere in here was anything about what he loved about her, but more so how he is the “hero” to this poor, unworthy woman. At least the comments on that post agreed he was TA!

I hate when they use “cuddling” as a placeholder for what they really mean. A guy I was talking to said “come morning cuddle” out of nowhere. Unmatched. The low effort it takes them to type that and what they expect for that is sickening.

Very similar to my experience! Also became friendly with an older Hispanic male (also Hispanic myself) and next thing you know he’s reading my name off my credit card and saying “te voy a robar” rough translation: “I’m gonna kidnap you” which culturally is seen romantically as just running away with someone. So, ew. Still can’t go back there which sucked because the food was bomb
