What source are you using for Maslow’s needs? I don’t see any making a distinction between intimate sex and non-intimate sex. Even if Maslow and other nerds consider sex a physiological NEED - that doesn’t mean it’s true. It’s odd in my opinion to include Sex as being one of the most basic needs with Food and water lol!!!!! I think indirectly, yes - it’s a sad death spiral. Not only does having too much fat lower testosterone (by converting it to estrogen, yikes!) but this makes it harder to build muscle. Then a body high in fat and too low in muscle is going to burn less calories at rest. Sorry to interrupt (I don’t often see fasting talk around here) - but I just make my own little salt mix using Morton Lite (which has less sodium and more potassium than typical table salt) and Magnesium Citrate (careful it’s a mild laxative). $20 worth will last you MANY years. But personally I don’t think it’s necessary for water fasts less than 72 hours - it hasn’t been in my experience
