Per the study linked, every point of iq raises likelihood of virginity by 2.7 percent for males, 1.7 percent for females. The effect is stronger for boys, but overall less intelligent less educated young people get into trouble and have early onset sex. Smart college bound kids have protective parents and goals. Edit to add another key quote: “Also like the other study, they found teens with IQs ranging from 75 to 90 had the lowest probability of virginity (the authors note this is also the same…

Uh. Wow. I know a guy. What's your age range? Got everything except your family liking him (who knows) and probably more on the fat side of skinny fat.

It's also... it's not that the advice is wrong, it's that it is un-nuanced. "Treat them like your male friends" means treat them like people- talk to them, listen to them, don't immediately slobber all over them and make it totally clear that you see them as interchangeable vaginas. Don't make women feel that you are only interested in them because of sex. And yes, some men do this. Other men however, go too far in the other direction. Instead of making women feel that they are only interested i…

I've tried to explain this distinction so many times! I think socially successful people, including men who find it easy to date, tend to use the word "friend" for someone in their social circle. So when they say "befriend women" they mean get more prospects. Socially awkward people have just a few friends. So when the socially successful dude says "befriend women" they hear "turn into the XKCD nice guy comic," and then they say "but the comic told me befriending women is bad!"

Ask someone on a date first, then worry about the touch barrier! This makes perfect sense if you do different things at different times.

You weren't being lectured. I also understood your post to mean that "women don't care if you're a good person," not "women don't care if you are charismatic." Consider that if people misunderstand you, you might be unclear in either your words or your thinking. You wrote: "Women aren't primarily attracted to men who are good people... they're attracted to men who are physically attractive...plenty of women do overlook the Dark Triad (narcissism, Machiavellianism and psychopathy) because you loo…

You know how they counter phobias? With exposure therapy! Have you been talking to women at lunch yet?

Fair enough, but that doesn't mean she can't flip on me, slap me, ruin my reputation or who knows what. I feel like we've gone over how irrational these fears are. You really think a woman's going to slap you if you talk to her? Or track you down and figure out how to ruin your reputation? She doesn't care enough. You can always run into a crazy person, but that's a danger in any situation.

No-one is saying they aren't true. Just think- Who complains on the internet? People who have had bad experiences. Who brags on the internet? People who have had good experiences. Of course the numbers don't line up!

The problem is the discrepancy between the ratio of women who say they don't like X and the ration of men who say they've had success with X. It just seems improbable that 99% of women don't like X and all the men who've done it successfully just happened to encounter that remaining 1%...? All of those numbers are made up! You're comparing women complaining on the internet to men bragging on the internet and you're NOT EVEN COUNTING THEM! I mean, this is a bit dodgy because it names an actual th…

I only said if she found him attractive. That can also include the traits and behaviors you mentioned. Right, but then it is an actual difference in the experience, yeah? The man is doing a different thing, it's not just that it is perceived differently. I contend that we all do this in one way or another. What's so hard about thinking that some women like this and/or have had good experiences with it, while other women don't like it and haven't had good experiences? Let's say you have heard a l…

K. Except I didn't tell you anything about your own experience. You're the only one telling me about mine. Like, not sure what you are on this sub for exactly, but if it's to learn more about how human attraction and sexuality works you could like listen and/or ask questions when people talk about their sexuality. I dunno.

Your conception requires the women who say that they always hate being approached in public to be literally self-deluding. Instead of locating the difference exclusively in the whims of the woman getting hit on, you could locate it in 1. differences in cumulative experience (women who complain about it have never received public attention from strangers that didn't suck) 2. Events not identical in ways that go beyond the dude's hotness (does the guy push past boundaries and get insulting, or doe…

Sure thing. Next time someone you have zero attraction to arouses you, you let me know. It happens to me all the time (more so when I was younger and kinkier).

Bro, for the LOVE OF GOD, you are meant to be an anthropologist. Why are you attributing this to women perceiving different actions when you could much more easily attribute it to the existence of different women? This convoluted explanation is only needed if you assume that women are a monolith. It's much more elegant and simple to think "Women complaining about men online don't like being approached in public, and have never received a public approach that they liked. The women described as re…

It's not. They looked at three studies, one with people who had just met, two with people in relationships. For the research, a series of opposite-sex pairs who did not know each other interacted. The results showed that people were more turned on when they had more signals that the other person liked them. I just wanted to point out that you misread a simple article so thoroughly according to your own prejudices that you were driven to correct the OP. Think about what else you might be misreadi…

Good! You have cool interests that you can use to make interesting, non-basic dates. Will they appeal to every girl? Nah. But if you comport yourself well and show that you are easy to be with you will still make a good impression.

Dudes are awfully basic. Find a way to provide food and booze plus one cool and interesting thing, and you're ahead of the game date wise. Food, booze, transport museum. Your treat. Even if it sucks she got a chance to do something new.

I know it's not exactly a chick-magnet but it's what brings me joy and happiness in life... I have derived a lot of joy from ponies myself, and in some sad moments! It's a great show. And no-one hates aerospace museums.

HA! I wanted to protest the idea that FiM is an indisputably masculine interest, but I honestly can't. Oh bronies, I had such hopes! Anyway, chicks also like astronomy. Lots of making out opportunities. Museums are good first dates, meteor showers are great relationship dates. As for rockets and planes and ships- you can build a cool date around touring anything... but honestly, it's pretty gold to have a bf with some interests that you don't share at all. You want to spend time apart, and have …

He made a ton of eye contact, sent out energy, and was responsive. He also made himself look as good as possible before going out. This is actually how women usually play the game, and it does take effort. Men would do well to do more female type game- it's about setting out bait to attract lots of options. Vice versa, honestly- it's also nice to have ways to approach so you can target people you actually want.

The social media campaign on the other hand, well, I couldn't help but feel it had a bit of a "preaching to the choir" problem. Tbh, this was what me and my domestic-abuse survivor friend (she's lucky to be alive) were saying to each other in backchannel when all of this started. Then we had to eat our words when it started making a difference. I probably have. I have this almost paranoid delusion that I could accidentally walk into a total psycho who loses her shit over a clumsy remark. It's to…

To be fair, Syrus, there is a distinction between making someone briefly uncomfortable enough so that they tweet their annoyance, and harassing or assaulting someone to the point that they have the motivation or power to ruin your career. I mean, as a woman (don't tell anyone), #metoo the "awareness raising campaign" was sort of an eye-roller. It's been around for a long time, and I didn't expect that it would make a difference. There have been countless social media posts and viral videos about…

There are different kinds of intrusive thoughts. There are the thoughts that are absolutely correct, but you need to be able to put them aside in order to function (e.g. "I'm going to die"). There are the thoughts that are sort of true but you need to consciously balance them with less upsetting thoughts and avoid following them down a depression spiral (e.g. "The sexual marketplace is brutal and rewards superficial characteristics") And then there are the thoughts that are just plain incorrect.…

I mean you can absolutely kill people and yourself as an inexperienced driver. But we don't have to get too bogged down in a game of analogies. I'm getting the impression that something has really spooked you. What do you think could be the worst possible result of approaching a woman?

This is more or less precisely how I learned to drive. I was a late learner, incredibly nervous, had gotten my permit four times without going all the way. I tried to learn from relatives and boyfriends and everything was so tense, horrible and scary that I never got out of the parking lot. I hired a teacher who specialized in adult learners. She picked me up, then got out and told me to get in the driver's seat. I couldn't believe it. I said "shouldn't we go to a parking lot?" "No," she said. "…
