Same, I had some of those same realizations. And the worst part is I would have just continued happily living in ignorance with my ex being unhappy because there were still some pieces that (at least to my mind back then) seemed to be working. Didn't really think I was unhappy either until she left and I removed the blinders.

Sorry about whoever hurt you. Hopefully you find peace and heal.

Thanks. I do. That's just not included here because it's not relevant to the story.

We will recover one day. Somehow. It might take forever, but we we will all get there.

Haha I know. Some toxic dudes seem to think it's wrong to show emotion for some reason. I disagree, and I won't change to suit them. My GF is also very open about her feelings so it's a two way street.

Exactly. I couldn't imagine being in a relationship with a woman who had no feelings or didn't want to see any emotion.

It sucks man but hopefully you find something that works for you. I wasn't particularly attached to that house, but it was mine and I had made several changes to it since we'd bought it that made it even more mine. In the end though it made the most financial sense to get rid of it. It was also better for the mental health to be over and done with it and move into something she had never been in before.

Hey man, I was in a similar place as you. Married for 10 years, dating for 13. Randomly wanted a divorce out of the blue and she couldn't give me any real reasons as to why. She had a new boyfriend a week after moving out and forgot about me instantly. I was right there where you were for about 4 months, and tried to off myself at least twice. I'm doing significantly better now. The pain may not ever fully go away, but it does dull. I tried therapy but it did not work for me. If you want someone…

I lucked out and she didn't fight me for the house. Unfortunately after refinancing, it was cheaper to rent. I sold it and used the equity to pay off all the debt she left me with. I fucking hate renting though, so looking at using all my extra money to buy a new house in 2-3 years.

You put re fried beans in your TACOS? Lol, yes. It was the way I always had it growing up and never experienced them without it until eating at restaurants as an adult. Although I grew up poor and I think the intended outcome was to make more taco meat with less meat by using the beans as filler.

Haha, I agree. I do want to get married again but I'm not becoming unrecognizable for someone else again. I wish I'd realized years ago how much I gave up to be who she wanted just for it to not matter in the end.

Lol that was me the month she left. It was like steak four times a week for a month and then a week of nothing but seafood. Now i'm down to a slightly more modest thrice a month.

Oh, I didn't even realize that one. She was a passenger princess and played on her phone the entire trip, so it's like I have to sit there in silence listening to music I don't like.

Lol right! I think we were all warned! 😂

Haha, damn. Weird what you notice afterwards. Mine said I was picky because I hated tomatoes and raw onions, but there were entire categories of food she refused to eat that I loved. Like all seafood and fish. Couldn't have steak more than once or twice a year. Couldn't have snacks in the house because it would ruin her diet.

The song for me was Still Breathing by Citizen Soldier. Followed by basically anything else from Citizen Soldier.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
