Realistically you should never look to engage in physical combat unless your forced to outside of either sport. Nonetheless, taking someone to the ground in a random altercation is highly unadvised regardless of your skill level. Too many unpredictable factors make BJJ not ideal for a street fight. The discipline is extremely limited in handling multiple opponents and requires significantly more investment to deescalate a situation physically. IMO boxing sounds like it resonates more with your goals of wanting to empower yourself through a combat sport than BJJ. In a ring its just you and your opponent. I think this situation inevitably manifests courage and mental strength that could be applied to your day to day life. The same could be said about BJJ but in boxing this feeling is more pronounced due to the increased likelihood of injury. Plus i think it's a more satisfying learning curve than BJJ.
