Can confirm. My own attorney was pressuring me to settle to my ex's alimony demands in order to avoid court. My attorney started playing scare tactics "court will cost more than the alimony payments". I didn't settle and no alimony was awarded.

This is a misconception. 10 years entitles the spouse to 25%. The service member and the spouse would have to be married for the entire military service for the spouse to be entitled to 50%. Service member earned half and the spouse earned half The service member doesn't stop earning his part of the retirement. It's still fucked up but let's say you were married for 10 years.
