World War II was not all white people. In France, a significant percentage of their soldiers were Senegalese, Algerian, Moroccan, or from Côte d'Ivoire. There was a huge uproar in France because IIRC none of them received medals or support after the war, only citizenship. Similarly, the English had quite a few Indian (especially Sikhs!) and Pakistani soldiers (at least 2,000).
