Exactly, going by the numbers they aren't paying, jail or not. They are going to be adding to this amount of people who don't or won't pay. Trust me if you don't have the money to pay you don't pay, garnish anything from zero your going to get zero. Do a day or two in jail, but because of over crowding and a need for space for people who do commit real crimes, they let you go. Still paying zero towards any support. I know it's to deter people from drunk driving, I get that part of it for sure. My thought is there are already a zillion people who don't pay child support or are so far behind on paying, so now they are going to add more to the problem? Paying child support is barely being enforced as it is. Not to say going forward, the surviving parent will have to petition the courts anytime they don't receive a payment. I just don't see how this will work out.

I raised two, I got sole custody about the time they were in middle school. I don't think there is any one answer that could solve this issue. I used a lot of tough love and made them do chores, try to teach them to be self supportive and street smart. Well said, I've been there. Yes it sucks bad and your self worth to your self is as low af. I had to work two jobs so barely had time to sleep let alone dwell on how shitty everything was at that time. Looking back at the struggle it was it made me smarter and a whole lot stronger. There is an end to the tunnel, your day will come and the sun will shine, brighter than ever. Never give up, stay motivated.

I too, though a lot older than you, believed in get married, buy a house, have kids live happily ever after, hahaaa. It gets complicated super fast and hard work that nobody wants to put into it. When the shit hits the fan then it gets emotional, greedy, ugly and expensive (Especially if children are involved) enter stage left the legal system which is pretty much rigged against you from get go. Don't feel you HAVE to be with someone, it's how you get in a huge mess! Agree, if anything you should hate yourself for letting yourself get in the mess. I am 100% sure there was something you didn't care for with her before you married, but compromised with yourself and once the ring was firmly planted on her finger, shit got worse for you!
