"Taken seriously" != "believed". Which I'm pretty sure is the actual point the people you're misrepresenting are advocating for. All reports of rape should definitely be taken seriously. The issue is just that some people refuse to see how "taking it seriously" doesn't mean automatically arresting the accused, applying extrajudicial punishments (like expulsion, etc), and forgetting that whole innocent before proven guilty thing. Cuz I'm totally on the side of actual justice, but how you phrased …

Stop just doubling down. Stop, and breath. Reread their posts from a point of view of "this person honestly isn't blaming men". See if you can understand that, hey, you actually can read it from that point of view. That interpretation of the words written does in fact exist. You will absolutely see that the slant you're reading is entirely self-generated. If you insist on finding some evidence of man-hating, well you're going to see it in every negative comment about men. But that's a preconceiv…

People are just reading what they want into it. Nowhere did you come across as placing this at the feet of men. "How men behave around beautiful women" is absolutely the reason for her behaviour, some people just can't read that without taking offense to it as if it's a criticism of men. It's not (or, doesn't have to be).

Agreed. She could be a nice person. I have my own standards after all, about women I'd consider dating. Where she falls flat, is the fact that she thinks it's both reasonable and somehow virtuous to flat-out list them. I would NEVER propose even a single one of my "criteria" to a potential date. Not even something as innocent as "you should probably like cats, because I have two of them", because that's not up to THEM to fit my preconception of some perfect partner. Go get to know them, learn if…

To be fair isn't this just a rebound off the way it has been for the prior X years? "Your husband deserves your best" kind of thinking of the WW1-2 era? Men were to keep their wives in line, working for their benefit. Women were to keep their head down and bear the inconveniences that came with the privilege of being with her man. Obviously not advocating/reminiscing about either. It's interesting, as I near 30, the way your view of the world, other people and yourself changes with time. Relatio…

If you compare it instead to men who want their women to be idealized sex workers/maids, it's not really all that different. The genders 'value' different things in that regard, but both sides can be equally shitty towards reducing the other to it.

Who even asks that? Of course they'll say it's fresh.. It's like asking "I'm wondering if we should eat here.. is your food good, or is it bad?" "Oh, it's good? Awesome!"

Be careful with dichotomies, it's easy to assume you've covered all the bases when in fact you haven't.

First of all, you don't have to reply. That one realization will make reddit a hell of a lot nicer for you, as you won't feel obligated every time you see a little orange icon up there. I used to get anxiety around having to constantly reply to people who I mostly considered as misunderstanding me; the messages in my inbox forced me to spend more time refuting claims I really didn't want to have to keep going back to. Eventually you realize you can just not respond and life goes on for everybody…

Same with "guys". I ask my girlfriend "what are you guys up to tonight" when she's hanging out with exclusively other women! Unfortunately I think a lot of 'feminists' and/or people looking for a fight see this in the wrong light. Whereas I might think "you are being welcomed under a previously exclusive term" and it's kind of a positive outlook, they might interpret it as "you are forcing your term onto us and eradicating our terms". Which is I guess a valid way of looking at it, but I don't th…

I'm just being skeptical, as people say shit like this all the time to feel like they're part of something. If nobody questions it, bullshit can take off. I guess I'm glad you're reinforcing what you saw (despite it being unfortunate this poster was found anywhere else). You simply rebuking my post is enough for me to be more inclined to believe you.

Which school? Because by all indications this was posted on a single university campus for a couple weeks tops, eight years ago. Interesting how several people in this thread "have seen this exact poster IRL".

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
