Had this been your own kid, sure that's a message you can and have every right to convey to them. Directly undermining a parent when they're trying to teach their kid something is a great way to piss someone off though. Not saying you were wrong in your message at all, but telling a kid something completely counter to what their parent just told them is almost always going to end badly.
