Read a bunch of threads on this sub. That’s where I started. Find the ones that seem relevant to you and read the replies. It helps a lot. The first piece of advice I will always have going forward is write. down. everything. And if she’s verbally abusive, record her. Have as much ammo in your back pocket as possible to use later if you need to. Next, write down the 5 things that bother you about your life situation. Then 5 things that you are optimistic about. Keep that list handy for when shit…

Separated 16 months, fully divorced for 2 now. It being final certainly helped alleviate a lot of the stress. For the longest time I was worried about doing something wrong during the proceedings and losing access to my kids, and that was the hardest part for me. The gym has helped me the most. It took me a long time to finally commit to getting my shit together. Finally joined a new gym in January. I’m already down 75 lbs since the whole thing started. It gives me at least an hour a day of esca…

Total waste of time. One of the counselors (60+) didn’t even have kids.

How often do you try to just sit with yourself? Honestly, you need to be doing that more. Go for a long walk without your phone. Cook yourself a nice dinner, and sit down and enjoy it. No tv, no phone, nothing. Just enjoy the quiet and the savor. If you play golf, go one early morning or late evening and play 9 by yourself. Just let your mind be with itself for some time. And if you don’t go to the gym, get going. One thing that turns a bad day around is a good gym session or run.

Sounds like the divorce is what you should be doing. No matter how easy it seems, run everything by your attorney, and take notes about everything that happens

Feel like a little bluntness is needed on this one. Your kids can smell your misery. Get out. Otherwise, you will continue to be miserable, and your kids will continue to be affected by it. You can’t live under that kind of stress. You will 100% be a better dad after you rip the bandaid off and start healing. Your custody time with your daughter as a better you will be far more impactful than her seeing you miserable every day.

Offering an honest alternative thought: How long have you been a lurker?

401k loans offer pretty low interest from what I recall when I looked into it. Going the parental route was super clean for me. Not sure how attached you are to the properties, but for me, it was worth getting out. Mortgage payment was high, and the mental breakup of getting out and starting over was enticing. Don’t regret it one bit.

Do you own a marital home? Not sure of your situation, but I was blessed to have parents that agreed to front me the money for an apartment deposit and attorney fees. I made sure in the temporary agreement that there was a stipulation the house was to be listed. After the house sold, I paid them back.

You need to figure out your own post-divorce self first. As much as you may feel like yourself now, you have no idea who you will be in 6 months, back in your own space away from the tension. Things will be completely different. Find the new you, own that you, and let the relationships come naturally afterwards. Get settled in your new place. Figure out your new routine. Join a new gym close to you. Buy clean groceries. Concentrate on what makes you you. Women are attracted to that. You’ll be re…

If you haven’t already, you better start your own journal. Mark down EVERYTHING. You may need it. My own documentation saved me. It was more consistent and truthful than her claims, and the more info, the less credible she became in the eyes of even her own attorney.
