This was like 15 years ago, but it was one of those manuals that was casually written in the first person. I can't think of any examples, but it'd be something to the effect of "you can perform task XYZ by entering this command, but if you like to take shortcuts (my wife would say I'm one of those people, haha!), then you can use Alt + Shift + F2 instead" or whatever.

My bad, I should have clarified better. The instruction manual was written in a very casual tone by the original author, and would make casual references to his wife, his beard, and other suggestions that STRONGLY suggest the author was male. The girl who printed it out and handed it in didn't change/retype/delete any of those things; a testament to how lazy she was...she didn't even bother trying to hide that she was obviously not the original author. We had a similar situation happen in the freshman year of a cybersecurity class where we had to write an instruction guide on how to use a particular security tool. When the girl in our group refused to participate, we did the work ourselves, and she literally just printed the actual instruction manual and turned it in (with the author obviously male)...and she still got an A.

Data science enthusiast here. It's not my career, but as a hobbyist, I connect with all sorts of people in machine learning and related science, and I don't know a single woman who does it. I know they're out there, and plenty of them, but in my anecdotal experience, it's zero. The fact is, WAY more men do it than women...and there's STILL a shortage of talent.
