I was following that advice for years and it got me nowhere so please don't repeat my mistakes. If you want to get good with women, practice getting good with women, bottom line.

Nah, you'll be fine, that wasn't a fundamental mistake, the interaction itself was decent, as per your description. I personally follow the rule "always be closing", so it comes naturally to me in the interactions. In case you see her again you simply talk to her again, no gimmicky behaviour, maybe call back to fun parts of initial interaction, then act accroding to circumstances.

This is so true, I can't even count times I have seen that advice about becoming a man and attractive women throwing themselves on you. I have no idea who spreads this nonsense, but that needs to stop, i.e doing self-improvement for passive value to attract women.
