This seems very similar to a dumb-luck thing that happened to me before I started paying attention to things that happen with women. The moment you start talking about "the ideal boyfriend" or "the perfect date," you're in. The target is feeling this emotion and ideal and putting you into, because it's an idea both of you are creating, because you're having a conversation.

If we have to discuss this: yes, I think sexuality--just like anything else--is a biopsychosocial phenomenon.

Feminism is about power(in part) I think the scene OP describes is fucked up, we can agree on that. I could definitely see a woman calling herself a feminist raping a man in the name of power redemption, however, I really don't think this is emblematic of feminism at large. I don't think anyone would support this rape. I think most feminists would empathize, tell the guy to report the crime, and refer him to counseling services just like anyone else. Anyone that didn't, anyone that told OP that …

I'm a bisexual man, thanks for asking. The guy presented his story, I asked a question. It's not a suggestion, it's a question.

I don't really have anything to say other than I think you're really out of touch with what you're talking about.

That seems like a truly terrifying prospect. I imagine it'd be a very uncomfortable thing to mention to a new partner. However, it may help you, knowing that this other person knows this terrible thing in your past, and that can help you not feel so self-conscious when sex freaks you out. Honest question: Have you ever felt like you would just feel better pursuing a romantic relationship with a man after all this?

I'm a feminist and I'm just as appalled as you. This woman used gender norms as a weapon (stay still, don't you dare cause a scene because I'll scream if you do) and it was a terrible thing to do.

Usually, it's the people not in the movement that label the movement. I would agree that the title feminism is a bit misleading in regard to feminist philosophy. Also, feminism is a subject, with many different aspects and fields within that subject. The word you're looking for is egalitarianism. The problem you're describing in regard to loud, extremist proponents is a problem nearly every school of thought (such as the Tea Party, or Islam) faces.

In regard to the subreddit talk: I don't really read r/feminism, but I read r/anarchism a lot which leans very feminist. But when I say it leans feminist... really almost all anarchy-talk leans feminist because the philosophy itself is extremely egalitarian. To me, all feminism says is "the sexes and genders should be treated equally, and no one should be oppressed for how they were born and how they feel." Then, you have places like r/feminism and /mensrights that debate about how this is achie…

Yes, if a woman (or a man) called me a "dick," it would be the same as calling me a bitch. I view them equally. So no, I don't think the scenario you are describing would be okay. I'm not for affirmative action or giving women special advantages or anything of that sort, I'm merely arguing that some of the things we are doing are unfair, and that patriarchy is still in place (which you disagree with). I'm also not saying that just because patriarchy is in place means we need to be hypersensitive…

It doesn't bother me, becasue I'm not a "macho asshole," It doesn't bother you because you're not oppressed. I can't criticize anything that would be associated with womanhood, or black culture, or any other minority or oppressed culture for that matter, becasue doing so automatically assumes that any negative statement toward those people attacks their culture or sex as a whole. No, you can't, it's unfair. By doing so you're furthering a stereotype and reinforcing the oppression that has always…

I get the concept. The problem is we're limiting our friends' behavior to a masculine schema and saying that if you don't fit this schema you are lesser, you are a woman. So if someone exhibits Caribbean-like behavior then it's okay to call them out on it? So what does someone have to do to warrant being called "a little bitch." Maybe it's a negative quality commonly associated with women.

Say you're something other than a white male. Say you're Carribean (really any minority, including women, because women are not the dominant class). Now imagine that if any of the people in your friend group did something undesirable, something that makes them less of a man (an arbitrary distinction in the first place), you said, "fuck that shit man, you're being fucking Carribean." How would you feel? I used this same line of thinking for one of the eighth-graders (whose Caribbean) I teach who …

That's too bad. While I understand the sentiment, that's truly a very dangerous message.

Calling someone a "little bitch" perpetuates the already existing state of patriarchy by comparing men to women when they display non-masculine qualities, or, more broadly, non-ideal qualities (thus saying women are non-ideal). I know it sounds like a stretch, but if you truly give it some tough, critical thought I'm sure you can sympathize with my line of thinking.

Yeah, whether the OP meant to or not his tone and word choice didn't really comfort me. I get LMR and token resistance debate, I know it's not inherently rape or immoral persuasion (it usually isn't, in fact, I think we have rape culture and slut shaming to blame for LMR), but sometimes, fuck, it really can be. I don't think the OP was being as sensitive toward this issue as he should've been.

some feminists believe that EVERY male/female sex act is rape. From what I've read that's a really rare, outdated notion. It's labeled as "old feminism," I guess.

Good point on k-close. I guess my broader point is kind of a lamentation against gender standards, how it's sexier if we don't ask to make out with someone (and less awkward honestly) yet sexual assault if we land the makeout and the woman isn't down. That being said, I know women who have been kissed by men completely unexpectedly, and just kind of tried to rush it because it was unwelcome. I'm not saying this is immoral (poor word choice), but I don't think anyone wants to do something sexuall…

I'm all about being agressive and stuff, it's better to get rejected, etc. But with the ass-smack, it wouldn't just be rejection but sexual assault! This is a serious issue I've had for a while, especially with k-closes, not because of lawsuits or anything but it just feels immoral. Not criticizing, just an issue that I'm curious to hear some of the vets address. Plz don't downvote!

First you have to establish that she's into you (either as friends or other). Is she used to your friend group? If not, have people over for a board game at your place and just be a fucking baller, get everyone laughing, show how awesome your friends think you are. Communicate enough with her so she doesn't feel left out, but don't focus on her either. The last game you play, be on her team.
/r/seduction09/02/11 01:11 AM

Yeah, try calling. If she doesn't answer, leave a quick voicemail and never initiate contact again. Maybe even show up a little bit late to you guys' practice and see how she reacts?

My first PUA idea was when I was in a bar for the first time underage. There were these two guys in Air Force uniforms looking fucking BALLER in the corner of the bar. It was karaoke night. Even though they didn't sing, the DJ kept talking about the AF guys and how brave they were, back on leave, etc. 50/50 chance the DJ knew the guys before they showed up. Long story short: All they did was stand at the bar looking fucking awesome and treating a woman like a gentleman whenever she came up to th…

I talk with a lisp and dress really well. I'm also heterosexual. Almost everyone I initially meet believes, nay, KNOWS, that I'm, ACTUALLY homosexual. It's weird, living with the thought that everyone I meet thinks I'm gay. Although I will never know fully the oppression that some gay people face, I feel like I've felt a lot of it just from being perceived as gay. To answer more directly your question, yes. Sometimes it really is hard to open up with my closest male friends. Actually, all the ti…
