I do agree with you, but I would like to add that lifelong does not equal unstable or mismanaged. Some people have conditions that they have to be on meds for the rest of their life or go to therapy to stay in a good place. It’s totally okay to not want to date someone with a mental illness but I want to add that because many in that circumstance can function normally and it’s a huge win if they do the hard work of staying healthy.

It’s their way of reassuring themselves that they aren’t insecure and that it’s actually you that’s insecure, otherwise they’d have to face the sad reality that they’re repressing their hurt feelings. It’s painful to be told by your partner that they need more than you, because it begs the question: does that mean I’m not enough? I will admit I am biased but I’ve never seen a polyamorous relationship that seems healthy or equal. All of my friends who have done it eventually run into the issue of…

Don’t feel obligated to be his therapist. LVM don’t usually confide their feelings in other men and end up dumping all their emotional issues on women which creates a lot of emotional labor for us. It’s great to emotionally support a partner but don’t be their only support and don’t pick up the slack if they’re not actively working on their mental health like going to therapy. You are not his therapist.

I dated a man from one of these cultures and I’m seeing him in all of these…. I finally broke up with him because he would go days without answering texts or calls and when he finally did answer, he would act like I’m the most beautiful woman in the world and give me all the attention, also trying to make up for his absence with money. I still wonder if he was using me as a girlfriend or a mistress.

True, plus he could pull a dine-n-dash. “Oh hey I just gotta use the bathroom real quick before we go”

Apparently we need candle wax on our chest to feel empowered 😑

It’s interesting that he implies he is honest when he isn’t honest with his wife.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
