Testimony is valid to support arguments from personal experience. For instances where testimonial anecdote serves us poorly, we can only eschew it for rigorous research when that research is available. Sometimes, the experiment has not yet been devised to settle an issue, sometimes the literature is inconsistent (implying corruption by conflict of interest or bias), sometimes there is too little literature for its findings to be considered well-tested, and sometimes it's not even possible to set…

Sorry for the delay. I waited until I had enough peace and quiet to give you a well thought out response. I would strongly recommend editing your list of subscribed subreddits. Do you subscribe to /r/TwoXChromosomes? When people bash feminists, it's important to work out whether they're bashing victimhood feminists or second wave. Third wave feminists, in my experience, are mostly women who had no positive male figure in their childhood, got treated poorly by enough men to see a pattern, and now…

Confidence can show a lot of good traits, that you'll stand for your decisions, that you aren't indecisive etc. As opposed to being indecisive and standing for your decisions. "I commit to not knowing what I want, and nobody can talk me into making up my mind!" :P

I can't compete as far as physical attractiveness goes. The rest of your post suggests that you sell yourself short. In your own head, maybe you don't compare with the Calvin Klein models strutting around these days, but understand that there is no universal formula for attraction. Here's the thing. People talk about "average" or scale from zero to ten to describe attraction, and that's baloney. Attraction is a binary. 1: Attracted. 0: Repulsed. As a descending number line, from most to least at…

And yet, here we are debating whether or not a community is misogynistic just because it focuses on the needs of men without concerning itself with the needs of women. Meanwhile, this very site has numerous communities devoted to addressing the needs of women without addressing the needs of men. It's only wrong if we do it, so women want to be the center of our attention in every corner of existence. Seems like we are expected to worship gina to me. We're subjected to a double standard whereby w…

Uh... huh. So, first society is trained that we don't want to be misogynists in the same way that we don't want to be racists. Then, the definitions of these terms become whatever the speaker wants at the time. In this way, the terms stop describing specific kinds of oppression and start describing whatever behavior the current speaker wants to discourage. Worse, the speaker doesn't even redefine the words, so people end up left to defend against nebulous concepts devoid of meaning. In that case…

I'll repeat, anecdotal stories are of little use in debate. That is not always true. It's a myth perpetuated on Reddit, which originated in subreddits about science. And it is absolutely true when debating anything that can be objectively quantified. My personal experience with TRP theory is not something that can be quantified. You have a natural talent with meta-analysis of argumentative writing, so I strongly encourage you to nurture that with formal training. And here's how I know that you'r…

You're working yourself up for nothing. 1) I'm not worked up. I get to say how I feel. You don't get to decide that. Yet again, you do not get to speak for me. 2) Let me just quote you... Anecdotal stories of survival are of little use in debate. ...telling me not to speak from anecdote on a topic that can only be spoken to from anecdote. Anecdotal stories of survival are of little use in debate. Well, then we better go find a rigorous, clinical study about how a subreddit has impacted lives. We wouldn't want to pretend that it's just a small forum on the Internet. Results are results. You don't get to tell me which kind of motivation is "correct". Sure, there are other routes. And this one worked for me whether that's convenient for you or not. Also (and this is the second time I've told you this), you don't get to tell me how t…

See my updated comment regarding the OP, first of all. Second, don't tell me how to construct my response. You don't get to choose my words for me. That's not how this works. If you want to talk to yourself, then I don't need to be involved. You may know the definition of "misogyny," but you're criticizing correct usage of it. Therefore, you're implicitly feigning ignorance of the definition to fit your narrative.

TRP may have saved my life. I have COPD, and I'm a tuberculosis survivor. Motivation to improve my relationship with my daughter's mother led me to TRP, and their theory put me on a good track. I've quit smoking because (only what I tell myself here -- this isn't meant for anybody else) I'm not some little bitch who can't handle two days of withdraw. It says enough. Don't get me wrong! Some trpers are absolutely ignorant bigots. But that's not TRP. Haters are gonna hate no matter what they call themselves. So, we get a few preachy people who think they can save the world by beating people over the head with their self-righteousness, and it makes TRP look bad. TRP is not misogynistic. But it is sexist. Intentionally. It is meant for men's specific benefit. Thing is, we live in such a gynocentric culture filled with little sister complex that …

Total ignorance. I even have this delusion that something called "Feminism" came into being, and that women couldn't even vote before that. That's not all. I have a persisting ignorant delusion that religious institutions had more sway over social standards than anyone else in that era. But that's just my ignorance about history talking. I have two girlfriends, so all this ignorance must be a result of my degeneracy. Does this mean I'm going to turn into a Muslim? I really don't want to, so plea…

why would I care if they maintain ten people poly relationships? So, if they're not with only one, they have to be with ten? Exaggerate much? The vast and overwhelming majority of poly arrangements are triads, and of those, the majority are 'V's. Assuming that because a guy has another girlfriend, he'd be open to the idea of having ten, is kind of absurd. It is somewhat difficult to balance all of life's demanding tasks, stress sources, and responsibilities with caring for one partner these days…

Pair-bonding is mutually exclusive with absence of monogamy for you. That does not mean that other people are required to function that way. Maybe what they're bonded with is their partner as opposed to the idea of their relationship with their partner. If your bond with your partner is more based on the idea of loving your relationship with them, then the idea that they are with others will threaten that relationship and block the attachment out of self-preservation. But if you are bonded with …

In other words, it doesn't matter whether you can see whether it helps them or not. What they do does not revolve around you. You are not the center of the universe. Are YOU dull? Or just a narcissist? You could simply respect that they believe it helps them, whether you understand it or not. To write that you don't understand how something helps people, as a criticism, is so damn conceited that it's insane. I'm kind of confused by this response, to be honest. I mean, if you really trust someone, why even bother asking if they've had a test before? Which is it? Are you arguing against me, that you should have someone tested no matter what, while accusing me of only thinking about ONS? Or are you arguing with me that if you choose responsible partners, then you can look for one you can trust? Or are you just arguing to argue? If you have to wear condoms or ask someone if they've been tested, you prob…

I'm not only thinking about casual sex. A responsible person gets tested after each partner, and I won't argue against that. But the only way to eliminate the need for trust is to have a potential partner get tested after meeting and before having sex. If you're going that far to eliminate the need to trust somebody (assuming they've already been diligently responsible) then you probably shouldn't be in a relationship in the first place. You can never completely eliminate the need for trust. Asi…

I have a strict, "No sex by appointment system" policy, so I guess you're right. But I won't criticize you for it. I just hope that you typically date medical doctors and people who don't like spontaneity.

Right, because requesting a doctor's appointment and labwork enhances the mood and makes the evening more fun. Everybody does that before sex. This is why I converted my guest bedroom into a urine culture and analysis laboratory to save time and really make things fun. Sooner or later, you're going to have to trust somebody. If I can't trust you, and we're sleeping together, then first of all I'm using condoms. Secondly, the fact that I don't trust you makes you a plate -- not my girlfriend. I r…

Sexist? Rude? Understandable? Weird? Normal? Showing off for a woman he likes. Don't read too much into it. The impulse to show off isn't as deeply rooted as the social theories that give rise to things like sexism. It's more that brain intrusively says, "If you don't do this, she might not like you," and guy says, "Derr okay, better safe than sorry." It means he likes her enough to get anxious around her. Later, he'll look back on that decision and think, "Wait... What?"

That's what we'd expect. But the industries driving the phenomenon would want to remain in business. So, there would always be a latest, greatest improvement, alteration, process, treatment, augmentation, etc, the same way that there's always a newer phone. It wouldn't take long for marketers to realize that making the latest and greatest sexier than yesterday's news will drive revenue up. That's also why so many women from TBP come here to tell you that you overestimate the amount of muscles that is necessary to attract women and that the way you attract women only works on a small subset. I'm going to keep hammering on this point because this is probably the mechanism by which TRP will cause the most longstanding (potentially permanent) damage. Fitness is not a video game. You actually believe this? That they need to feel they are in an 'empowered' position in a relationship with a woman to overcome their anger? You really believe this? That People who have no agency or self-determination and get walked on and taken advantage of don't get angry? Wow, next time a description would be better. No, single motherhood itself is not to blame for things like that. But thanks to the fact that all three of our government's branches from federal down to municipal are plagued by institutionalized sexism against men where parenting matters are concerned, they don't weed out mothers who would do things like that. And even if I were willing to do that, I still wouldn't without proof of their age -- which would break Reddit's rules. So I still wouldn't. Your trollish comments undermine your goal here, and if you're serious in your aspirations then you need to know that the community of people who are not monogamous have standards. So, you still undermine yourself. I advise against marriage even for people who don't mind being with a slut, because I've yet to meet anybody younger than 70 who even knows what marriage is. I don't react against the past because the past is gone and all we have are the here and now and where the here and now is going. You're lying to yourself. The human brain simply does not work that way. I agree with OP, but with one caveat that I don't think is important enough to change the view. The reason for women's entitlement is entirely social; not biological nor histrionic. Though the cultural causes for that entitlement do derive from histrionic observation of exactly the roles that OP points out. The reason that I think this doesn't count as a view change is that were it not implicitly observed that the entitlement to a provider is not biologically determined in the general sense, the…

I can change your view! For there to be any kind of end goal implies that there would ever be an end. Misdirected orgasmic rage is a feedback loop that never ends. When you rage, you train your brain to rage again. So, assuming they could ever come to a unanimous agreement about what their perfect world would look like, even if they managed to forge the world of their dreams, they would still rage. There is no end goal because there is no end.

There's a bit of a lifehack for figuring out policy machines, be they administrators, legislators, courts, whatever. They nearly always adhere to these rules. Think of the policy machine like it's an organism. Its self-preservation comes first. There are people with short fathers, therefore short men can propagate their genes. QED But seriously, that's all there is to it. Blue Pill thinking may have caused some problems, but it wasn't in the first place. There are events predating that social phenomenon. The reason we have that kind of thinking is because unchecked masculinity caused serious problems, for a long time. Many women sincerely feel threatened by classical masculinity, and are attracted to it anyway. The cultural dysfunction that has produced the need for TRP negatively affects the same people who would exacerbate and perpetuate that dysfunction. I guess we could call it "sexual dissonance", because it's cognitive dissonance impacting sexuality. That is honestly surprising, but it shows through and through among women who criticize TRP. The most ironic thing is that TRP strategies are not even about women. They're about how to carry and conduct yourself as a man. Everything about women is inferred or shared from experience to demonstrate why and when the personal strategies are important. Consider an analogy: A website tells women to wear makeup. There are certainly more mature ways to explain what TRP probably originally meant by that advice. "She has a yeast infection, is on her period, has been struggling with major depressive disorder, has C-PTSD, and might have cervical cancer, but she says no to sex so I've withdrawn." Maturity requires a little more nuance than TRP explains. I'd like to add onto this (which I agree with) that maintaining and (sometimes) reviving attraction is necessary. Male competition gives rise to red pill social dynamics in a pre-feminism society. The cliche that young men get praised for conquest tales in the locker room, and young women get shunned for having sex, dates back to the time when families regularly disowned their daughters for getting pregnant (for example). You do have a point that men are more likely to pay for prostitutes, but I think that's more related to the male and female roles in sexuality than a difference in sex drive. We associate male sexuality with penetration; giving. And female sexuality with receiving. The long history of more closely protecting females for survival purposes also puts them in a more passive role when it comes to meeting, courting, and even just for hook-ups. I think TRP has that right. But whether I go to my kitchen…

Well, if it's a gay bathhouse then it's by-definition a place oriented to nudity in context of sexuality. I think more of the tough guy archetype would make the problem worse. Tough guys are aggressive and domineering, and for anybody to be dominant, somebody has to be dominated. When people see that a person has been targeted, they generally assume that there's a reason and bandwagon. So, the dominated person gets further targeted. It's understandable when people slip on the simple part of something complicated. Earlier today, I had to remind myself of which month c…

I'm not suggesting a personality disorder in this case; only that it is an overestimation of abilities to feign a capacity to dictate nature. The topic has been resolved, but I'm going to explain that as if it hasn't been. Sex drive is mediated in the limbic system of the brain, which is partially responsible for emotions. Arousal next involves the amygdala, and then there is a pathway right through the hypothalamus -- the part of the brain responsible for controlling thirst, sleep, hunger, brea…

The government shouldn't do anything to help people meet to flirt, get laid, nor establish LTRs. They might improve the strength of marriage by making divorce less frivolous and trivial, but that's about as close as the government should come to getting in our pants. If anything, we've moved toward getting the government off our jocks and out of our nation's cooters for generations, if you're in the US. Some states still have sodomy laws on the books, and they could be interpreted as banning ora…

Then really unattractive guys should approach women with a similar SMV. Easy. For every dude out there with no confidence who won't speak to a woman because he has a laundry list of game-breakers, there's a woman with just as many who just wishes that any man would talk to her. Those guys should sympathize with her, and do for her what they want done for themselves. That's all there is to it. They should then live for the thrill of the approach; not the hope that they won't be rejected. Guys who…

Freedom of expression is an inalienable basic human right, so respect technically can't be. You can't have the inalienable right to disrespect people at the same time as they have the contradictory right to be respected. A basic modicum of respect is an expectation of common decency. From that standard, basic, minimum level of respect, somebody might earn worse or better respect. That said, the word "right" isn't always used to mean one enumerated by law, safeguarded in executive conduct, and co…

See? There's nothing wrong with using "solipsism" to mean "narcissistic." But it is narcissistic to say that it's wrong for others to have an emotional craving for intimacy. And having emotions in and of itself is not selfish. That's judging people for having nearly ubiquitous human traits. And that is an abuse of "solipsism" even to mean "narcissistic". In fact, using "solipsism" to mean "narcissistic" solely because narcissism and solipsism share the trait of selfishness is still an abuse of t…

That's another instance where abuse of the term "solipsism" makes no sense. It's used by TRP to mean narcissism. Actual solipsism is a belief that you're the only person who exists, and your attempting to define what others feel is a need, is narcissistic. Who died and made you the ruler of others' emotions? I understand that when fancy words and phrases become popularized by forums, they're immediately bastardized. But do we really have to rush that endpoint where the term means nothing whatsoe…

I agree with all of those points. And toward those, there's something young men should bear in mind before they learn the hard way: don't internalize women's sob stories. This is where so many guys go wrong, purely out of good intentions and trying to be the best person they can. So, observe: Media of all kinds is full of stories and allusions to them about how women are perpetual victims. You hit the nail on the head. I see so many young people trying to go 100% RP, and it kind of worries me. That's how young men were in my early years, where I grew up, and it always meant trouble. Not to mention, they basically never got the results TRP advertises. These relationship models should be treated like tool kits, and the right tools should always be selected for the job. TRP's insistence upon biological determinism precludes that, and it's going to lead to a lot of broken hearts and a…

In the long term (increments of 5+ years), the beta traits become important. Comfort becomes increasingly important, and that's not dependent upon gender. The reason for this is that attraction and love are like drugs in the sense that they wear off relative to their initial intensity. I don't mean to imply that a wanderlust kicks in because that doesn't always happen, but the heat cools and the excitement calms down. Once that happens, to get the heat back, there has to be enough connection, tr…

Men are under more negative social pressure to be faithful. When word gets out that a woman has cheated, most often people make excuses for her. It depends upon how you define "slut". I don't define it based on n-count because controlling your n-count requires either abstinence or controlling other people like puppets. TRP casts a wide net addressing men's issues, so when its advice is paired with the wrong person, it can be a bad thing. Consider the outcome when a man misdiagnoses the source of his problems, and consequently overcompensates the wrong way. Because keeping the bedroom hot in a long term relationship takes skill. Imagine eating the same food every day for a decade. Eventually, you're going to need to put some spices on it. There are a few reasons why women aren't as vocal about a dead bedroom. One is that they're under more social pressure to believe that sex shouldn't be as important to them. Another is that it's very easy for them to cheat. Now, take a relationship in that age range that doesn't have a dead bedroom. He'll be the o…

If it was an instinct, then it would be the case in all societies, but we don't see that. That depends upon the assumption that the instinct can not be trumped by one supporting a more pressing need. Situational depression, absolutely. The thing preceding the clinical often. And that's the insight that I think might be useful to some people. It's very clear that TRP can help with crises of confidence. But if somebody suffers from depression, and matches TRP stereotype of BP, then they too could stand to take some advice from TRP. I think this could be very beneficial to some if we can get past the notion that TRP men must be archetypal. It's not really necessary for anybody to allow any grou…

They stereotype BP as cuck-like, unmanly, and unattractive. Basically, the opposite of everything they are encouraged to be. So, put all that together. A homebody with poor physical fitness is somebody who is far too inactive Inactivity is a hallmark of depression, and in fact can worsen it. Being a homebody (neckbeard archetype) is basically social withdraw. Low (or absent) confidence, social anxiety People with clinical depression are typically pessimists, and low self-esteem often results. Un…

I feel like people on this page are trying to define what your relationship will become. Don't let them do that. Everybody is different. Communicate. If you don't speak up for yourself, to whatever extent or in whatever way you think is best to do so, then you only have yourself to blame for not being heard. Reason. Why is his behavior this way? Is there something he's unhappy with? Is there something you could do that would naturally inspire the reciprocation you want? What is your balance betw…

You can spot the cliche caricature of TRP. That extreme rarely exists in reality, and when it does, it looks like either youthfulness or a mid-life crisis. Usually, a mid-life crisis. TRP's stereotype of blue pill types has a name. Clinical depression. No, you can't tell by looking. (See: hopelessness, bad luck streak, no self-esteem, rarely happy or content, lots of inactivity) Blue pill types (compare and contrast with TRP stereotypes of them) have a name for themselves too. Hypergamy was once a way of life; the de-facto way that all marriages were arranged. It was so ubiquitous that it built and conquered nations. You can't have that kind of sustained social standard for centuries to thousands of years without having some form of it stick around for a very long time.

You're right, IF we assume that she's in the traditional homemaker role. Fewer and fewer people can afford that these days. We've both been in that role alone. We both know that it's hard damn work. We also both noticed something. When you're the homemaker, your responsibilities where rent and bills are concerned consist of taking money to the collector, IF you even do that. The person earning the money feels it when it is spent. So, they are more cautious. This is not a gendered phenomenon. Whe…

Are any of those examples actually a case of a woman having sex with a lower SMV male just to visit pussy upon him to be nice? (as if that's just a casual favor, "Hi! I'll hold the door, and you hold my cooter!") In every one of those cases, she's getting something in return. And she should. Ideally, it's mutual attraction and pleasure, but sure, not always. If a cuck knows his partner's habits and history, he'll be disregarded due to what he is. I think it's more commonplace than many realize because men trade partner smv for security and women overestimate the partner smv right for them. The result is that women think their men get pussy thrown at them from all directions and end up resenting the insecurity. That's outside of outlying cases where medical issues or overarching circumstance precipitate weirdness, of course. So I think you're right that men would still be more likely than women to hook up just for sex, but I think women would still seek commitment, even if it was socially acceptable for them to approach. I actually agree with that, if we qualify this by assuming that any woman who is not being monogamous is also not interested in commitment. I'm not entirely sure that is true. I believe all women (and men) can and will cheat under the right circumstances. The trick is knowing what circumstances your SO would cheat under, and ensure that situation never occurs. The less likely she is to cheat overall, the easier it is to remediate the risk. To a point because you can never control for all variables. Absolutely! How do you think these perceptions would change if everybody single, male and female, simply spoke up to the subject of their attraction? I suspect that men would still be more likely than women to hook up just for sex, due to medical and biological concerns exclusively affecting women. MGTOW only means that men live their lives the way they want to. The only reason we have that term and WGTOW is that when we get down to the brass tacks of both, we cycle right back to the same social questions that give rise to other theories. But, in reality, MGTOW and WGTOW prevail. It's just that the individual's way will end up having another name in the end. Those two acronyms should be considered the preface to the book of social theories, except for people who intend to remain single.

This is how all crimes should be handled unless the accused is a public figure. Reason being, the accused is often treated like they're guilty, and if their acquittal is never well-publicized. Every single one of these that is valid derives from motherhood. 1) Women are more nurturing, can empathize with children more easily, and are assumed to be less sexually-motivated because their own health and survival can depend upon avoiding pregnancy. Maybe we see egalitarianism differently from some standards. Mathematically, equal and equivalent are not the same because equivalence requires that two or more things are identical. We're not identical, so we're not equivalent. But we're equal. By that, we mean to say that we each ultimately have equal worth and power but generally appreciate each other's worth and apply power differently. TRP also reminds men of things they knew when they were younger, after years or decades softening and becoming more conscientious. Not that it's a bad thing to be more socially aware! But with enough time under pressure to deal with responsibilities and conform to ever-evolving social pressures in ever-changing culture, a person can start to lose a part of themselves. (considering the cross-outs here) In theory, yep! But not in practice. The reality is that marriages involving somebody who is not taking an active role in directing their own life will always, always end up with one or both parties realizing that they are miserable. Simultaneously, when two people marry who love themselves just as well as each other, who know where they want their lives to go, each work toward that goal, and are confident and secure enough to keep someone from taking it from th…

Young woman? To me, that means someone 18 to 25. And it totally depends. If she wants to have sole agency to control her life rather than compromise decisions with somebody, does not want to sacrifice her time before she accomplishes a degree or career, would prefer to establish herself before having kids, she doesn't have medical coverage that will last beyond a child's first year, or an emotionally and cognitively mature, financially established, and healthy peer group, her parents don't care …

Gotcha. And sorry to ramble with so many words. I just worry about that myth. If young people could go out and experiment with actual MDMA safely, knowing it's the real thing, and with knowledge of how to do it responsibly, then I'd leave it alone for people to figure out for themselves. But these days, there's a real danger that some teenager will think that ecstasy makes sex better and will end up dead or in a coma because they swallow God-knows-what.
/r/PurplePillDebate11/01/16 05:58 PM

Ecstasy doesn't work that way for men, if we're talking MDMA. Though I don't know if that can be said for whatever designer poison young people are getting on the streets these days. For a man, sexual contact can reduce the effects of MDMA, while the drug blocks climax and even sustained arousal -- unless the user has a very high tolerance. In that case, the user has fried their serotonin receptors for the near future, and will have much bigger problems to contend with than sexual issues. I just…

People went to a Christmas party not too long ago and got shot. Should we avoid Christmas parties? Do not let those who use fear and intimidation to coerce others change the way you live your life. If you do, then you give them the power to control you. In OP's scenario, the subject is already having casual sex, so debating whether his problem can be solved by avoiding sexual encounters is moot. And there is something to be gained by that thought exercise because people do have casual sex, and a…

Looks like it's time to look some stuff up. (later edit): Still, cooling off is not the same thing as not dealing with your anger at all. Bushman suggests you delay your response, relax or distract yourself with an activity totally incompatible with aggression. It doesn't matter how mad I am, and it doesn't matter what it's about. If my daughter snuggles up to me, I'm calm almost instantly because I have always feared the idea of teaching her negative emotions. There's something to Bushman's the…

Experienced introspective people prefer partners who have a positive influence upon their personal growth and development. Hypergamy, and the much more commonplace stability-seeking, are just a special case of that rule for the special case of introspection that women must consider.

It was the MRM subreddit, about two years ago (if I recall the timing correctly). I think I saw A Voice for Men when I was browsing around other MRM forums, but it's hard to say because I just closed the tab for each one, once I spotted misogyny. If there really were a MRM forum totally without misogyny or toxicity, even disguised as opposition to dogma, then I'd probably read it. Awareness of social issues is generally a good thing, but toxic mental food can be as bad as toxic actual food.

Excellent countercase! I'm glad you mentioned it! This is why friends should not coddle friends. I can't speak for many peer groups, but mine is usually strong in that way. Great point! But then isn't it that much better that he purged the poison before talking to her? It's a lot harder to be open to the idea that you're wrong while you're still angry. That's one of the reasons that men do this -- anger can cloud judgement.

Islam is at least two religions. One of them is an apocalyptic cult worshiping death and hoping to kill literally everybody in the world. The other is not much different from the devout forms of Christianity, in terms of the most basic beliefs and devotion to customs. No devout practitioner of a religion needs TRP because they are already confident in their beliefs, already have a social and cultural group, and already have social theories that they live by.

When a man speaks (or writes) those kinds of words, there are two possibilities. Either he has a good reason to be angry, or he's lying and faking it. It's not that the agenda of feminists decides which men's rights issues are worthy of discussion, but that the MRM is so filled with blatant, egregious misogyny that it's classified as a hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center. It seems to depend on the family/social circle, and maybe geographic location. I never saw that in Florida or Louisiana, but it was told to both boys and girls in south Georgia. Similarly, I never saw sexual bias in judgement of social circumstances in Natchitoches, Lousiana, but saw nothing but that in Shreveport and Bossier, Louisiana. I don't know if I can believe that the powers that be are that crafty. It's more likely that things happen organically, they figure out whether it's useful to them, and if it is, they encourage it while appearing detached or contrary. Or at least it seems that way because if a social movement doesn't benefit the elite, it is usually stamped out with relative swiftness. There are few exceptions. In what situation would someone who's being disingenuous not also have bad intentions? Surprise party! ... Maybe that's an exception. Little white lies can be an example. Basically, any time someone decides something is best for you and then fakes their intentions, thoughts, or emotions to manipulate you into making the choices they want. That doesn't mean nobody likes fish. ... maybe bad wording, but I'll keep it. I do fear to become a cuck against my will, though. Connotation counts! Everything is affection by the exact same reasoning. Influence is really the neutral term here, which is demonstrated by its use in the OP definition, despite being a synonym for the intended use of the term. And, of course, influence is not inherently bad.

You've only redefined manipulation to frame it in a positive (or at least neutral) context, and then gone on to say that manipulation isn't bad. In colloquial language, yes it is, and that's the language that people use. Bad intentions are not the only thing that can make manipulation bad. So can being disingenuous. So can undermining somebody's better interests for your personal gain, which isn't a bad intention -- it's a necessary one in commerce and diplomacy. But you're still causing them ha…

There's a language problem there. The genders are equal. Absolutely. No question about it. They're just not equivalent, and failure to distinguish between "equal" and "equivalent" is a problem. A gallon of gasoline and a gallon of milk are equal. They are not equivalent, because equivalence requires that at least two things are equal and identical. But expressing that in the form of structured, specific points about the genders is notoriously difficult when we try to keep away from generalizatio…

I really highly doubt that pregnant women hunted, at least past the 1st trimester. It really does not make any sense. Thank you! But at the same time, you can't argue with empiricism. If it has been observed (and apparently it has), then it has happened. It's that simple, case closed. But that doesn't mean it happens all that often. What exactly should the guy do? Whatever he feels like doing. It's his life. He's an adult, right? We were discussing labels, and I may be able to clarify. TRP considers only two components to orientation: gender and intentions. It is geared to heterosexual people, and discourages marriage until somebody is so ready for it that they ignore their peers (wise, in a way). But it ignores a third axis of orientation, in one gender's case: monogamy at one end, polyamory/hypergamy at the other. It does this for power. Power is only useful if it can be used to get what you desire. Some people do not …

This doesn't happen on a broad scale, like that of society itself, nor as an explicit goal of feminism because that movement has grown incredibly diverse. Today, when somebody says that they are a feminist, they should probably also say what they mean by that because so many very wildly different ideas fall under that umbrella term. So, the only generalized advice is that a couple's desires and skills should be complementary. However, if you post in a red pill community, then you will probably get a lot of answers indicating traditional gender roles because changes to those roles are what has precipitated the crisis of masculinity that gave rise to TRP in the first place. Pregnant tribal women have hunted right up until the month they give birth. True it's more difficult, but the fact is, they have done so. We have proof of this that cannot be argued. I wouldn't argue a binary regarding whether this happened, because I'm sure that anything reasonable that we can think of happened. When I talk about traditional gender roles, I don't necessarily attribute to them the power dynamics inherent mostly to Western culture. Humans vary pretty wildly in that regard. Testosterone is associated with a male motivation to work, so men who embrace their masculinity work harder. If you don't need to be supported, then you may still want a partner more than a sponge, and even if you want Mister Mom, you probably want one who will actually do what the role calls for. Testosterone moves men, so embracing and encouraging its effects makes men move more. I think that the egalitarian nature of hunter/gatherer societies still fostered gender roles due to the immutable influence of nature. A pregnant woman can not hunt, because she is not in a state of physical dexterity and agility. It is more risky for a pregnant woman to gather, because that exposes her to risk of contact with poison plants, or bite by insect, snake, or diseased small animal. Okay, I see. It didn't come across like you were giving examples of how the sampling model could fail, because there's a much simpler way that will happen in practice: only respondents can volunteer any information in the first place. The first point, that the means are the same, is partially correct. Assuming that a population of males and a population of females only count heterosexual partners, and all partners are included in the population sampled, the sum of partners will be the same for both sides. With parity, you'll be dividing by the same number of people on both sides. So, of course in that carefully controlled, semi-omniscient scenario, you get equal means. But overlooking the assumptions and extending the observa…

Gene therapy can completely replace the purpose of eugenics, with time and sufficient research. So, I'd either retreat to protect my family or I'd assist the targeted while participating with a militant resistance. There is no longer any reason, even in (long since falsified) theory, to implement eugenics aside from ethnic, religious, or cultural hatred. This is the best advice to grow a social life, but there is one aspect very often neglected: your immediate environment. Why does it have to be an argument against TRP? Why can't it be an observation that TRP isn't a perfect philosophy? The rules are not the magnum opus of a renowned philosopher or social psychiatrist. They're not a religion. There are bound to be some flaws, and being aware of those flaws doesn't render the rest worthless or bad. It is still a commonly held Western value that men are the ones who initiate contact and make the first sexual move. As such, women are much more likely to be approached. It would be a much more difficult topic to question which gender is statistically more likely to accept an offer for casual sex. I'm convinced that the genders are identical in that regard; that neither women nor men are more predisp…

What you describe is dependent upon maturity; not gender. The belief that women are irrational is a holdover from the time when they were seldom involved in commerce and public affairs. At that time, women matured in adaptation to different demands, and were not cognizant of the full range of information men had at their disposal. So, rather than undermine their privileged position in society by informing women to create the conditions for emotional adaptation to a clear image of reality, men op…

Humans are more complicated than animals, so the bigger the crowd you're speaking to, the more exceptions to your assumptions will be in that crowd. There is nothing wrong with describing human behavior, but were it easy to do so accurately then psychology would have been completed and replaced by neuropsychology by now.

Because nothing is universally attractive, but it's still only good gaming to hedge your bets. Some traits are attractive to such a high proportion of people that exemplifying those traits is just smart. But keep in mind that as you move between cultural groups, and as you grow older, the values and beliefs of your peers will change, the experiences driving their fears and joy in life will diversify with increasing complexity, and the traits that brought success yesterday may not be such a safe …

It's not okay, so that question can not be answered. The dynamic can be explained, though. Under the unqualified assumption that all men want sex, some cultural groups consider virginity to be a symbol for lack of motivation, self-determination, and social skill. Because the assumption is unqualified, this neglects that some people have been traumatized in a manner that results in aversion to physical intimacy. It also typically neglects that some people do not prioritize sexual impulse above ot…

Yep! And OP is right. Figuring that out is half the challenge, and for those who will act on a plan, setting short, mid, and long term goals are the rest of the challenge. Where a real wrench gets thrown into the sprockets is when life acts up and throws plans out of whack. So, it has to be a continuing process of consideration and renewal. It's no wonder that people seek out cognitive devices and philosophies to help them along at points! What I was referring to is that when people seek that ou…

Look at the old spice advertising campaign[2] . This commercial isn't all intuitive it doesn't post how Old Spice is the chemically superior deodorant. It instead appeals to men's masculinity. Everyone knows wearing a deodorant doesn't make you a "Real man" yet this is subconsciously is what men want. A commercial with an attractive, barely-clothed man also holds the attention of viewers who are attracted to men. So, it's a double-whammy from a marketing perspective, and for anybody still unaffe…

My advice would be to put out of mind any handicaps you think you have. Handicaps only exist in your head. Then meet people you're attracted to. The same advice goes for anybody. TRP seems to base their philosophy on cognitive devices that may help with confidence, but always think critically when approaching new dogma. Selectively take what is useful to you, but don't let it define you. A crisis of confidence is temporary. There may not be much that can make you feel better about it right now, …

First feminists attempted to preserve traditional social values where sexuality is concerned, and they confronted the double standard that only women are shamed for promiscuity. Yet it continued, from the very beginning of young men's and young women's sexual and romantic lives that men would be praised for their conquests and women shamed. Eventually, the narrative changed to emphasize that women are every bit as human as men, and therefore do not differ so much sexually that we should live wit…

I hesitate to write this because I know that challenging somebody's insecurities is a great way to have them reject you right off the bat. It's just worth saying that I thought like you do until a '4"10 friend "sealed the deal" with at least fifteen different women in front of me before going back to her place each time because he was unemployed and homeless at the time. Aside from the ones he met in front of me, I knew of ten other women he slept with over the course of a year. He used to talk …

This seems to be part of the transition. Many men raised through the 1980's and 1990's were brought up to be providers. The labor market changed, but the parental culture only changed for daughters. Many men can not adjust the source of their self-worth because they are still judged by an outmoded standard. Some succeed in that standard anyway, some compensate, some withdraw, and some commit suicide.

You may be correct. I've seen that described by veterans as, "Like having your arms torn off, and then being beaten with them as punishment for failing to do push-ups."

Really? Name one within the past 10-15 years. I'll wait. Dan Conner, Roseanne Note that his Season 9 affair was retconned in the final episode. He died of a heart attack before that could have happened, if I recall correctly.

Usually when a man refers to women who "dislike sluts", they have in mind vague memories of negative words about alleged promiscuous behavior. That's usually the stuff of rumors or the product of competition for someone's attention, and isn't necessarily related to the subject's sexual history. Hating anybody is a much stronger sentiment, and if slut-hating does happen then it is certainly inspired by something unrelated to the subjects' sexual history. Hatred is a product of fear. But that's no…

Self-criticism has no gender. Losers yield to it and allow it to define them. Winners use it to compete with themselves. People who can't do either of those things for whatever reason and span of time, often instead pretend to ignore it. That choice also has no gender. There are few universally-applicable social concepts, but the capacity to self-critique is a feature of sentience. Making a transition from being defeated by, to using, self-criticism sometimes requires a neutral period of ignorin…

Sometimes. A sexually repressed person may resent others' sexual success. A promiscuous person may encourage promiscuity in others because shared behavior validates values. A close friend wisely avoids involvement with their friend's interpersonal issues, but may inadvertently meddle to encourage (covering for their friend) or discourage (lecturing their friend) unfaithful behavior, even as strategies to avoid involvement. Both perspectives are correct and incorrect where this is concerned, beca…

I think that scrantonic1ty is referencing the emotional insecurity and jealousy that can result from one seeing himself as a beta. It is true that unhappiness can result from that, but I think this is a case where happiness and contentment can be contrasted to great effect. An alpha may also find unhappiness through fatigue in maintaining their social role, in addition to less frequent intellectual connection resulting from others' assumptions about their values. As a caricature to illustrate, t…

"Sickened" is a strong word referring to the most extreme disgust or contempt responses. Because people with different experiences respond differently to stimuli, any response that is not universal originates with the person experiencing it. Were such a strong response universal, outside of extremely caricatured personalities, there would be no reason to question it because we would all know the answer. Taking the term "sickened" as an exaggeration of a milder sentiment for lacking a better term…

The pattern you observe is not the product of failing moral character, but rather (possibly) biological imperative, and certainly cultural influences. It has been observed across mammalian species that younger females (chosen terminology because we're talking animals for a moment) are more likely to prefer aggressive, younger dominant males. In some cases, the very same studies showed that abuse by males fitting that profile leads the females to prefer much older, calmer, gentler males. However,…

Neglecting the mathematical formula people tend to use online, this depends upon too many individual factors to predict attraction, compatibility, or results in a general sense. The more easily answered question regards which age people will begin to judge you for being involved with somebody in that age range, and even that is very nebulous when addressed in a broad sense. If two people are mutually physically attracted, seeking similar levels of involvement or commitment, and culturally compat…

TRP theory markets itself as strategy to take control of life to achieve success and sex. It is presented with itemized ideas and literature, and as a kind of self-improvement. It is by far not the first thing to fit that profile. See anything from: every religion ever, to motivational seminars, to marketing for air fresheners. That kind of thing has been so wildly successful in so many forms throughout history for many reasons. If you're looking for "the" explanation for a social phenomenon, th…

Dick is abundant and low value. Pussy is also abundant and low value. Finding somebody who has more to offer than their genitals, who is also compatible with you and what you're presently seeking in a partner is rare and high value. That goes for both genders. The intent of the saying is not to shame a part of anatomy, but that sex alone is usually easy to find. Finding more than sex can require some patience.

Sex is what the people having it decide it is. Power, as I understand the term, is the potential to control others. If the people having sex make it about control, then so it is. That's certainly not the only way to think of it, nor is it the only kind of sex. What about couples who consider it the ultimate act of bonding and sharing? There are couples who have long, heartfelt conversations during the act. For them, it's not about pleasure, power, nor procreation, but rather the connection. The …
