Then why label them masculine and feminine? I agree with you wholeheartedly that we are all a spectrum of these things but I think labeling them as male or female traits is ultimately counterproductive.

I don’t find this kind of stuff very helpful frankly. Men and women are so much alike in terms of thought processes and emotions that it does a disservice to try to fit each other into these gender-defined boxes. Sure, you may be able to show some differences when you look at very large groups of people but the overlap between the sets of ”all men” and ”all women” is so huge that the differences have no meaning at the individual level.

Why (and what) should they do anything about it?

This is a love languages things. So compliments don’t work for you, great — but they do for other people, both men and women. Figure out what works for you and what works for your partner: quality time, gifts, acts of service or physical touch. Communicate that need to your partner and then do for them what they actually need to feel loved, not just what you think is right or wrong.

Please tell me more about the scientifically proven difference between men and women? How do men and women process emotions differently? How much overlap exists between the set of “all women” and the set of “all men” in this regard? And what does it even mean to “process emotions”? As far as I know I (and most other people) first simply feel emotions and then as much as possible we try to identify them (anger, sadness regret, happiness, etc.). What does it mean to you to “process” them? If you h…

Yah, the answer to this totally depends on where you are in life. This actually happened to me in my mid- to late-twenties. Dated a few women who seemed interesting at first until I realized they had been popular girl / cheerleader types in high school. That really killed things for me and I’m sure they wondered why I dropped them. Now I see that I was being pretty shallow myself. At this relatively later stage in life now I wouldn’t hold teenage / young adult behavior against someone at all. We…

Gas pedal / brake pedal analogy for sexual desire and arousal: Doing chores probably doesn’t hit the gas pedal for most people but NOT doing your fair share of the physical and emotional work definitely hits the brake.

How about just neither of those? This isn’t an either / or thing.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
