Have a pen with you and if you have built enough keno tell her you forgot your phone at a friends house (or other location that would demonstrate higher value) and for her to write her number on your forearm so you can be in touch (hopefully you have setup a time bridge with her already) then as she is almost done tell her to draw a picture of what she looks like - be playful about it of course.

I have been in a ~5 year relationship and can confirm this. I have always been the one guiding my relationship through troubles in the past, and if I had played a passive role in this process, it would have been over a while ago. But hey! While I am agree with your assessment, I'm no scientist and can't say for sure that this behavior is tied to each sex like you describe.
