Date men as they are and not by their “potential.” If he wanted to be better, he would have already been so.

On a similar vein, traits that you might find attractive can just be ones that you actually want in yourself — that is, you are dating what you lack. I’ve realized that the traits I’ve been attracted to have been ones that I didn’t (yet) have in myself (e.g. being excellent with people, being well-read), and who needs a man to grow?

The cognitive dissonance is what makes the actions vs. words so difficult to reconcile! I also like framing “if he wanted to, he would” as “If I’m not valued, then you’re not worth my attention” because it keeps me in control & reminds me of my worth 😌

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
