He does not reveal much of his situation, legally or otherwise. Over here, if a child is born into a marriage, the husband assumes full paternal responsibility unless he objects; getting out of that is usually a court battle. Not perfect, for sure - but it may well be the ranter is fighting at the wrong end.

I have to disagree. After you have food, shelter and medical care, money becomes surprisingly unimportant. What really matters is on what you spend the rest on. And I can tell you: kids are a helluva drug. If you've ever seen the orgasmic shine on two young mothers faces discussing the time and intesity of their infants hiccups, you might understand. (childless and fine that way myself)

Because it doesn't become ok just because someone else is doing it? If we continuously lower our standard because someone else does and we have to compete, we'll quickly end up in anarchy. Not the romantic, fallouty adolescent kind, but anarchy as in rule of the biggest asshole.

Do you think that a Court should have to prove that someone is guilty of a crime before infringing on their rights, or do you think they should have to prove that someone is potentially committing a crime? What a strange question is that? Potentially commiting a crime? As in "all women are potential whores because they have the .. required parts"? A "desirable" legal system does not only require due process. It also requires that laws can be enforced - e.g. making snoring illegal isn't feasible …

That doesn't answer the question of why there should be a court order telling them to stop. WTF? Would you care to read my replies above? protecting families from the destructive effect of incest protecting society from the accumulated effect of repeated incestual offspring protecting people - especially adolescents - from incestual abuse How do you define consensual in a dependent or co-dependent relationship? Because both say "it's fine"?

I found that sort of confusing. plut --> plus, sorry. The idea is not to punish for consensual incest - but issue an order "this doesn't happen again!" If the two continue having sex, punish them for ignoring a court order. Are you saying you agree with that solution, or that you don't? Still need to decide whether to paint me black or white? "protecting families from incest" - in the sense that it's often destructive - is only one aspect; the others are "protecting society from incestual offspring" and "protecting people from incestual abuse". Let me elaborate: What family means to you is up to you. However, in my opinion, every human deserves this protected space to grow up, to shape their character etc. By default, family provides this space, so giving default "protection" to family follows immediately. That's all.
