For starters, if you haven't, read Models by Mark Manson. It's all worth the read. I used to be quite cynical, an in some way I still am, but I try to fight it every day. But I think two things are necessary : you need to be able to love your own life, and love the life of others. If you are unsatisfied with yourself, or your current situation, make it your priority #1 to change that. Build passions and interests of your own, so that you can honestly believe that your life is pretty damn cool. T…

I think one can grow in any relationship status, although I always advise people to learn to be satisfied in celibate so that you don't settle for anyone just to avoid being alone. I think I grew a lot during this relationship, although I also did while being single. The key is simply introspection and self criticism throughout ones life. Embrace change, embrace criticism, and embrace life and the many challenges it brings.

Although what you say is mostly true, you have to remember that women are quite different at 20 than at 29. It's demographics, so you have to adapt your subjects of conversations at least to find a common ground. And they probably won't be looking for the same qualities in a man, or the same kind of guy. (Being a frat king would be less impressive to them than to have your life and passions together for instance. Those things will be valued more).

I agree quite a lot with /u/filthytacos . I'm in my early 20s myself, but I usually prefer meeting girls in their mid to late twenties, because they have a richer life experience and are usually less 'lost' than they are in their earlier years. Going along with his 'dangerous' theory, late 20s have responded stronger to me ever since I've started working abroad, because I come across as someone who has his shit together and is fearless to live on his own. So bond on deeper things, worldly things…

Well as you said he just got out of a long term relationship and maybe doesn't really remember how it's out there. Maybe in time he'll realize how it is, and an little bit of introspection will lead him to question things and want to grow and learn. Maybe you should just take him out in order for him to sense the waters and eventually so he'll get rejected a couple of times. It's a step he's gotta take by himself. If he doesn't want to listen to you, then don't help him. Just go out there, do yo…

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
